I was away from Half.com for a couple of months while moving to another state. When I came back and went to list a book on half.com, I noticed I was given about a thousand words to describe my book! Is this new? Was it a glitch? I love it.

Now for my question: Would I be smart to unlist some of my inventory and re-describe it using more words (where necessary)? Have you done this?

They also gave me an option to use a picture. Is this new too? Have you included pictures and had better success?

If this is a permanent change for half.com, I'm all for it.~Adele

If you want to edit a half.com listing you don't have to unlist it. Instead, call it up in your inventory and click on "edit."

I am new to half.com so can't answer the rest of your questions. However, I can say that I absolutely love it. I can sell books there that can't be given away on ebay. And it's so easy.

Pelorus: Thanks for responding! I did call up one of my books as an experiment, and clicked on "edit." I was then NOT given the many-word option to describe the book.

I may just try unlisting one book to see if I get that option again!

I would, however, like to hear from one of the half.com old hands to find out if this is the way it will be from now on--with the option of a fuller description.

I haven't tried a long listing yet myself. It sounds like a good way to describe a special book. I wouldn't bother with a picture unless you are selling something really unique or expensive.

The format on Half makes the buyer click for more information. I don't know about you, but that is not going to make a buyer happy unless what you are offering is distinctly better than what someone else has. Don't waste a buyer's time on run of the mill volumes.

I have had my Half.com on 'vacation' for some time and want to start again.

My question, can you use the pics stored on AW? And--how do you do this? The reason I like AW so much is the fact I can just select the pics from a drop down. How does this work on Half.Com.

The pictures have been available for a week or so. I wonder if anyone has noticed a change because of pics and more description space.

I haven't used pictures there yet, although I'm considering it for some higher end out of print books. Frankly I've just been too lazy to scan them yet, but I think it's a good idea. I don't use AW so I don't know how you would link to an AW scan for the picture.

The longer ad length is 1000 characters, not 1000 words. Still, it's much longer than the 45 characters they first started with, that was eventually lengthened to 70 characters.

I've been using the longer description length when I have something pertinent to say about the book. As mballai points out, it's not always necessary to have a long description for a run of the mill book. But for describing the condition or edition of an out of print book, I think the information could definitely help you sell your book. If you can't edit, I would cancel the listing and immediately relist. Wish I had the time to do that for all the books I had listed from before. It will take me a long time to go through all my inventory.

I've sold a few books with the longer description and also had someone utilize the new question feature, where a potential buyer can ask a question before deciding to purchase the book.

If you want to revise your old listings you WILL have to delete and relist. Please note that the 1000 character's is only available for single listings, if you use the multiple listing option, your still restricted to the 45 characters.

Can't tell you anything about the picture uploading, cause one of the things I like best about half is I don't have to spend the extra time and effort scanning pics.

Now I have a half.com question.

Buyer ordered a book. I said I could fill the order, then realized that it was in "good" condition, not "like new" condition as my listing stated. I sent buyer a note about it thru half.com's order problem system 5 days ago and haven't heard anything yet. What to do now???
