I have a personal account with paypal, I didn't upgrade to the premier or business account...and today I received notice that a buyer had sent me a credit card payment....so I replied to the buyer to review my paypal payment methods accepted within the invoice and told her that I just wanted to explain to her why her payment from paypal would have to be denied. When I went into my account to review this transaction, at the bottom when it usually says, "credit card", it doesn't say that, it says, "Instant" as the payment type instead of "credit card"? what is the difference between an "Instant" payment and a "Credit card" payment? I'm confused epecially after I expected to see "Credit Card" listed as the payment type......can anyone enlighten me?

One comes out of a paypal account [instant] where the other would be from a cc payment.

"have a personal account with paypal"

You can not accept cc payments via personal accounts anymore.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply........but I am still confused.....I'm aware that credit card payments cannot be accepted thru a personal account.....but my confusion comes into play because paypal sent me a notice that this "Instant" payment WAS a credit card payment so I expected to see "Credit Card" as the payment type, not "Instant" as is noted in my account......If this instant payment is from an account, why am I being ask to "accept" or "deny" the payment as if it IS a credit card payment and why did paypal send me a notice saying it was a Credit card payment? Do you see where my confusion is? If an "Instant" payment comes out of an existing account......why am I being ask to accept or deny it????

Just thought I would post this for other sellers.....I just got an answer back from Damon on my question above......here is his reply:

"The wording for all payments was changed to instant, but some users are
getting confused because they are not aware of why they are being asked to
upgrade (this would only be triggered by a cc payment)."

.......might keep other personal account holders from becoming confused.....I was used to seeing "Instant" as referring to anything OTHER THAN a credit card payment....but now, ALL paypal payments whether they are from an existing balance or from a credit card will say the payment type is "Instant" as the source of the payment.....the only way personal account holders will know the source of the payment is from a credit card is, you will get the message to upgrade to accept the "Instant" payment you have just received.

People can send you a credit card payment to your personal account, however, it is not processed until you accept it (which means you upgrade to a premiere or business account). Unless you upgrade, the cc funds will not go into your personal account.

I've had this happen too. Sometimes instant is from the persons debit card and if that card is somehow linked to Visa or Mastercard then the PayPal system interprets it as a credit card. I have to deny them too and explain the issue to my bidders. Hope this helps.
