Ended up with my first neg...grumble, growl.

Auction ends early November right about the same time my email server dies and I have to move everything over to @home. Of course, @home dies about a week after that.

Anyway, second week of December I get an email from a customer that she sent the check on 11/16 and hasn't received her item. I look through my files and have not received her check. I believe that she sent me the check but the PO misplaced it, it happens. I suggest she send a replacement check and I will gladly hold her item for her. If the first check shows up I will return it to her. I don't hear from her until this week when she negs me. Her neg states that she sent check, I never sent item and won't refund her money...money which I don't have and her bank statement clearly states I don't have.

I email her asking why she negged...she says she wasn't going to put a stop payment on her check or spend $.34 to send a second one. Mind you, she never bothered emailing me to tell me she had an issue with my suggestion of sending a second check. I would have gladly given her free shipping or whatever to make up for the inconvenience.

Personally, I think she never sent a check and just negged me to pre-empt me negging her as a NPB, which I went ahead and did. Right after I factually responded to her neg to me.

I have 300+ feedback/250+ unique. Of course, like everyone, I've worked hard for a perfect record and now this hag has messed it up. Do you think buyers will really care if I have 1 neg out of 300 or so or am I worrying over nothing. My items are low end cost wise which makes this all the more annoying...she negged me over a $2.00 check.

AACCKK!!!!

1 neg in 300 is an excellent record. Don't worry about it.

I really think sometimes people are just mad about something and take it out on the sellers. There is absolutely no reason or excuse other than unrelated bitterness about something that could cause this. I have had far more serious mix-ups than this and have always worked it out. It is inconceivable that whe wouldn't write another check. Hope this makes you feel a bit better. Don't worry about the neg. Dave.

Sorry to hear...I got my first a month ago after 650 plus positives because someone couldn't READ the description. It only hurts for a while...

I've bought (another id) more than I've sold and I DO look at a sellers feedback. I would not hesitate to bid on an item with 1 neg with that much positive. Absolutely don't worry about it. Block her and go on as I've seen so many on this board say.

It's a plus. Everyone knows, even bidders, that eventually you will have to deal with a fruitcake customer. Your unemotional response shows you can keep your cool under pressure.

it is part of life on Ebay. I remember my first neg....it was the cookiest thing. I felt sorry for the person who left it. But it did ntobother my sales. Forget about it.

I saw someone's feedback with tons of negs. Well not tons, but a lot. He didn't respond, retaliate, or appear to sweat it one bit. He's selling away!

I almost certainly would bid on items offered by a seller with only one negative and 300 positives. I'd probably read the neg and the response, though, as I'm leery of buyers OR sellers who leave off-the-wall, angry-sounding negatives or responses.

A calm, professional statement of fact is always appropriate: "Never received payment despite reminders," or something along those lines. If I read something like, "This old bat lied and never sent payment," I'm probably going to skip that seller's auctions no matter how good the rest of the feedback is.

I don't think you have to be too worried about that one neg. Especially if you answered what was the case and all. I usually do try and check what that one neg was about.

I have had one neg like forever now and when I got it, I was not even a seller, but a buyer. I bought some incense, e-mailed them if they would send it to Europe and send them $7.00. Mailed them a few times when the incense didn't arrive and they said they got the money. Finally, after 4 or 5 e-mails of saying, we will send your item out, I decided to neg them.

I regret that decision, because they immediately negged me too. And that while they already had 30 to 40 or more negs and now not even registered anymore. But the neg is still there. *sigh*

Fortunally it is a neg from a long time ago and if people check it out they will see that this person is not registered with e-bay anymore and all.. so I am not really worried about it. But it's no fun.
