Just got this message to seller from ebay without any specific auction mentioned. I do sell exercise videos.
Would you respond?
How?
Hello from northern New Hampshire. It's snowing again! I would really like to buy this set, but my husband and I are disabled and raising 3 kids on $1200 a month. We also sell Javanese kittens @ $200 ea, but they're only 3 weeks old. We have deposits on two of them;there are 5 more and a lot of interest. I just don't know when exactly I'll have the money. It could be today!
My disability is severe depression. The doctor suggested exercise, something that I would stick to because it is fun to do. My arms and legs are in great shape, and I love performing. I figure the place I most need exercise is my belly and torso. If I could make payments, I would bid on these tapes.I promise I would pay the full amount by February 3rd. I might even pay the whole amount in a week.
Perhaps you even have more than one set of tapes? Let me know ASAP; I check my email often.
P.S. The way I got a computer was to get one at the dump and then get a friend to help upgrade it over the last two years so that my kids could do their homework. Even 1st graders do their homework on computers nowadays. My girls are 16, 12, and 4.They would be so relieved if exercise would make me happy again. Thankyou very much,

you asked so here goes
I would cut her a deal. Depending on how much you have in them I might just send her a set or maybe you have a older set or a set with damged packaging ect
I suspect most peaple here will disagree with me but I 'm a soft touch
I know some peaple have taken me but I feel I have truly helped others and to me its worth it.
spock here......

Hello
Many crooks out there but... If I wanted to I might GIVE them a set. (Tax deduct) but never...no never sell it to them. If you don't have dups or is to costly to loose then move on. Likly a cow pie in the the trail anyway.

I find it reasonable that this person could find tapes on ebay that she could afford to pay all at once.

You don't really need a tape to exercise. She could also rent one & have the friend who rebuilt her a computer copy it for her as I'm sure they probably have more than one vcr.
Actually, I don't believe her story & I also see trouble here.

If they are the high bidder you really do not have a choice. If you have more than 1 ask them not to bid and you will sell it to them at the high bid price. Do not send any untill payment is sent though. Good Luck!

The lady made no mention of putting a deposit down; no mention of how she wants to pay in increments. But, she did tell you about her depression; it's snowing in New Hampshire; how much she makes in a month; the ages of her kids....
In other words, avoid this headache.

I agree with the others.
She is waving her depression like a flag to get her through life.
If exercise would make her better, then she can exercise with shows on tv. I know if she has cable there are exercise programs on one station or another all day long. She could tape any of these for free.

I would put her on my blocked bidder list. She sounds like a wacko to me and you may be asking for trouble.

A HUGE ditto to what the others said on avoiding this bidder! I am not saying she IS a crook but there are those who pull out the sympathy card hoping to get those "soft touch" sellers. Definitely sounds like a headache and a half with this one. Unless you want a hassle, don't deal with this one!

I agree you should most definitely avoid this bidder, don’t get involved, don’t even answer her e-mail and put her on your blocked bidder list.
HOWEVER if YOU decide you want to help it is pretty easy to see if the person is for real or not. Accept her request to make payments. Tell her you will hold the items until such time the item(s) is paid for then you will ship it, but not before. You will quickly find out if the person had or has any intent to pay.
Frankly there is way to many other resources for her to get a hold of a tape of this nature other than eBay. Good Will comes to mind for one. I always see these sort of tapes at Good Will in piles because they don’t sell, and they are cheap. Plus by buying from a place like Good Will she wouldn’t have to pay shipping either. If she is so bad off she shouldn’t even be looking at eBay auctions to buy things. After all eBay is an auction site where items could conceivably go for more than the amount stated in the starting bid.
Again for what it is worth, my advice would be not to get involved, don’t answer her e-mail and put her on your blocked bidder list.

I would aviod her like the plague. She sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen. Anyone who gives this much personal info the way she has presented it does not sound stable.

Thanks for all the wonderful input on this perplexing potential bidder.
I have decided not to answer and to place the person on my blocked bidder list. There are many similar tapes to mine, except used, rather than new, that she could get. And I offer exercise tapes all the time. No need to bid now and pay later when you can just bid later and pay later.
I have come to believe the poor soul is very likely to be in the middle of a manic episode of a bipolar disorder. (manic-depressive type).
After the initial post, I checked the psych textbook and reread her email and it all clicked. There are many clues there. I could be wrong, but this is certainly not a normal person's email.
She has my sympathy, but not my charity.

Devil's Advocate here:
It is the nature of depession or manic depression to exercise poor judgement when ill.
And there are people who are just downright naiive, even me , or are just friendly and simple.
We don't know that this woman's mail was her only accomplishment this week or first sense of hope in months.
Not that these are your problem, or thaT you should take on a *project*. I'm simply suggesting that however you respond, be as sensitive as you can.
Depression is a serious, real disorder. Depressed people kill themselves.
Don't send a mail for e.g along the lines of:
Hey Loser,
Go to the damn library, or get a job.
Know what I mean?

Hit the email "delete" button and go about your business.
Favors usually lead to problems, so I would stay clear of this one.
The above is not mean spirited, it's just smart.
