I am not sure I can link a picture here so I will describe it first and then try to link.

It is about 1 5/8" and resembles a clock pendalum. On one side is a Red Cross Sanitary Dog peeing on a spiked helmet, on the other side the dog is holding a service hat and standing proudly. In the top is a screw device protruding and a hole. I was told it is a flask. I don't think it is a drink flask. Is it a powder flask? Any help would be appreciated. I seem to have reached a dead end. Okay, here goes for the link.

Good picture!

Can you show a picture of the other side?

Not sure but it looks like the dog is lifting his leg on a WW1 German helmet.

I can't imagine that it could be a clock pendalum because you would never see the other side. It sure couldn't hold much gun powder either. And if it happens to be a drink flask, you would barely get a taste it is so small.

Hopefully, it wasn't full of the same stuff the dog was depositing on that helmet!

I hope it isn't one of those things that seems really neat, but when you find out what it is, it is a real let down.

This is only a guess!
But it looks like it could be some sort of pill box.

And also:
Since there are some pieces missing it could be some kind of dog whistle.

dadostickboy's guesses are as good as any. I was thinking it might be a fastener that kept the dog's Red Cross "jacket" on. I've never seen anything like it. One thing that's fairly certain - just list it with "WWI, " "Red Cross, " and "Dog" in the title and it'll get bids. Whoever's bidding can probably tell you what the heck it is.

I guess I'll go ahead and list it. Sure would like to know what it's purpose was though. It is kind of heavy for its size. There might be something down in there, but it doesn't rattle around.

It could be a K9 medic insignia ribbon from WWI the two holes at the top possibly holding a ribbon or leather cord for the dogs neck (looks like the other ferrule may have broken off. Just a good guess but I can imagine medic dogs being trained to carry medical kits to wounded men out on the battlefield or in the trenches. That is the kaisers helmet being wattered - the medal may be british.

OK4Leather, that seems the most logical to me. The only thing that bothers me is that it seems a little heavy, but they were working dogs, so maybe not. Thanks!

Kasue, The brits have clubs for everything you may try to find one that does militaria - You can find many US dealers who do Military items by doing a search for" samurai sword" click on the listings till you find a listing under militaria wwII and a dealer with big FB most of those guys do medals from wwI and II. Also there are a large number of people who collect K9 badges you can find them by doing a K9 search on ebay. Just some ideals.
Luck to ya !

I'm glad I stayed up! Thanks to you, dadofstickboy, I was able to go in and change the description before anyone bid on the auction. I hope someone will consider buying it and repairing it. Well, that was fun! Thanks everyone! tooterville on Ebay
