Auction ended - sent WBN only to discover bidder is in Germany. email came back and appears that it didn't even reach bidder. How to I cancel this sale and receive credit for auction fees? Would this be like a NPB? It may have been an oversight on bidder's part and it might not be fair for them to receive "black mark." I'm just concerned about my costs. Thank you.

Would you sell to the winner if you can get in touch with him/her? Try contacting the winner through eBay's tell a friend, or by going to the search and pulling the ID up independantly of the auction (that way you get the form to email through eBay, not just the email addy link). Most foreign bidders are wonderful!

Otherwise you have to do the NPB or use the 'mutually agreed' feature which will let the buyer off the hook and still let you collect FVF.

touchofeurope - thank you. I just sent a message through the "send auction to friend" feature on the listing. Hopefully I'll hear back from her. Yes, I should be thinking about expanding my circle of sales beyond this continent. I just hadn't planned to do it so soon! Thank you, again.

Good luck! I haven't had a foreign deadbeat yet, wish I could say the same of locals ;-((

Shipping is a small hassle, usually foreign buyers pay a premium for stuff they can't get locally, so it's worth it!

I was wondering how you know that it is a bidder from Germany if the e-mails are getting rejected? Not sure I understand that one.
However that said, if the person is from Germany, take the package to the PO and have it weighed and get the shipping options. Foreign bidders expect to pay more for shipping as they already know that it will cost more. The best thing to do is give them the shipping options. You may be surprised to find out that it is often cheaper to ship a package 4-7 day priority than 4-6 week parcel. Not always true, but that is why you should get the options for the bidder. I would not hesitate a bit in selling to this bidder. If you are worried about it, check their feedback. You will get a good idea of what this person has done in the past and usually will reflect upon what kind of dealings you will have. I ship over seas often and I also have had great luck. I have had only one deadbeat out of well over 100 sales to foreign countries. I also wish the USA bidders would follow suit.
Good luck,
bp

You can see where a buyer or seller is located on the feedback page - in the box with the f/b summary - nice to know often!

barparts,
usualy the email addy itself can help you guess, germail emails end with .de
dutch are .nl japan is .jp
and Uk is .co.uk
(instead of traditional .com or .net
for US markets)
of course if the buyer has free
mail account, you cant tell
(like my last bidder from netherlands
that had hotmil.com account)
