Maybe it's just me, and I just noticed it, but when looking around this morning on eBay I noticed some of the categories have a separate page for Buy It Now auctions along with the gallery page. Which do you think will draw more attention - are you going to start listing more BIN items? We usually don't, we like the old fashioned auction approach.

I don't usually list with BIN, but when I do I use it more as an inducement to get that first early bid to attract more bidders. I tend to view it as advertising, many times the regular bidding surpasses the BIN I set.

I do think that with this new BIN page they will get a lot more action. The buyers need things made as simple as possible for them.

I mostly shop BIN auctions exclusively. I've tired of the waiting game. So, this BIN page will cut down the number of auctions I have to wade through.

The disadvantage for sellers is that buyers who aren't looking for a BIN will likely not see your listing and won't place the first bid on your item. It could end up hurting my sales.

I shopped BIN before, and it tooks hours to scan and click. I buy a lot of our family clothing on eBay and this feature is a plus for me as a buyer. I used to say that I wished you could view all the BIN's together like "items ending first", etc. I am also tired of the waiting game in bidding. This is a huge help to me.

One more thing...Yes, I like to use BIN in my auctions. It's only 5 cents. I feel it encourages a first bid from someone who might just put it on their watch list otherwise. IMO it increases my sales.

I think I've been misunderstanding how BIN works. Say I have a widget for sale, BIN for $10. Starting bid $5.00. Someone bids $7.00. No BIN yet, right? When bidding gets to $10 is it automatically bought now? Or does the buyer have to click on the BIN button?

I've always assumed that BIN meant, in the above case, that, with starting bid of $5, someone clicking on BIN button gets it, and that previous lower bids have no eeffect on whether the BIN works out.

Does BIN work ONLY when there are no previous bids?

And if someone bids $5 on my widget with a proxy amount of $10, does that bump it to BIN and the widget is sold? Hmmm. See how much I don't know?

Yep, you definitely are misunderstanding BIN.

The BIN price disappears as soon as a regular bid is placed. In your example, if somebody bids $7, then the BIN disappears and it turns into a regular auction. The item is not automatically won at $10 because the BIN option is gone at that point.

The only way to purchase an item through BIN is to get to it before anybody places a bid.

Thanks for educating me, holdenrex! I do appreciate it. You're right, I was completely misunderstanding how it works. Maybe I'll try it in one of my auctions sometime. . . . ~Adele

roadsmith -- what you described earlier is how Yahoo BIN work. eBay BIN works as everyone has explained already.

I usually combine BIN with a Reserve on higher priced items. This makes BIN stay in place until the reserve is met.

I see a large percentage of items I list like this go BIN on the 3rd or 4th bid. Definatly worth the extra buck.
