How long does it take a Powerseller to figure out they are losing money on auctions going off for a penny with shipping at $2.90 I know I can't buy new DVDs or Videos that cheap and pay all the fees to sell it too. This same idiot has killed the prices on E-Bay.I now sell all mine on other sites because of it.People are waiting for this stuff to go back on for a penny and most of the time buy it for under a dollar. And this is making money? Where is the 200% profit I keep hearing about?

It doesn't cost anything to ship a CD, and it's been awhile since i had a liquidation store but those CD's hardly cost anything either.

I don't know for sure, but maybe if you sold about 750 per week you might make a little on the shipping.

I did the math about 3 years ago watching ebay prices and if I remember right there was room for about 70 cents per CD but it's been awhile, I'd have to figure it again to be sure.

Okay I made a mistake, you were talking DVD not CD, but the market should be the same, we used to sell the CD's and in bulk they should cost about 10 to 25 cents each if they are funky titles.

I looked at the auctions and it says "media mail" and cost 2.90. Well media mail is 1.30, packaging should be had for under 15 cents, etc.

If ya like typing and packing, it's possible to make an okay wage if you stay hard at it.

Yes, I should have said that a person can make good money if you get a system in place.

and the bonus is that not all sell for a penny.

one cent DVD'd - $2.90 shipping

Wish I could find this seller. I'm looking at a DVD now and they want $6.00 shipping and handling and it does not state how it will be shipped!

I know a guy that sells everything starting at a couple bucks because it gets everything for free! Charges actual shipping.

Just go to the DVDs category and type in 1 cent DVDs in the search and you'll find them. And if you do find out where to buy these for less than a dollar a piece let me know, I have to pay $2.50 plus shipping.I know about the CD's,yea you can buy those for a few cents each for crap titles.

We have to realize that eBay is now steering all ordinary CDs/DVDs/videos/books to half.com. For some reason they don't seem to want the cheaper items on eBay. In fact, for anything under $10.00 it costs the seller less to sell on half than ebay, when you consider all the ebay/PP/AW/multiple listing fees.

But the bottom line is there are too many people who are willing to do all that work for 75 cents. I have heard all the explanations, but as far as I am concerned, life is too precious for that.

A little off topic here, but I don't understand why anyone would want to list auctions that they don't expect to get at least $10.00 for as a closing price.

If you add up the cost of selling a $10.00 item you get:

listing fee: $0.30 (if listed at $9.99)
final value fee: $0.50 (at 5%)
-----
total: $0.80

For a simple listing with no extra images that's about 8% of the sale value.

If an item sells for only $1.00 the total cost of listing and selling the item is $0.35
which is 35% of the sale value.

Now if you add in any additional fees, such as image hosting services, etc, it may cost you about 10% of the sale value for a $10. item and about 50% of the sale value for a $1.00 item.

I don't mind paying 10% but I don't understand why anyone would want to pay 50% of their total revenues in fees associated with selling the item.

Items under $10. would probably be better off selling at a fixed price in an online store such as the ones offered by eBay or AW...

I just sold a large number of collectable stamps, I organized the auction lots so that most of the items would (hopefully) sell for $10.00. Some didn't get the price I was hoping but others did much better than I expected. The total amount of fees (listing and final value) for both eBay and AW were less than 10% of the total sales revenue. I probably wouldn't have been able to sell them without using eBay and AW and I'm quite happy with the result...

I'm very new to the Ebay auction thing and have learned very quickly that you cant make money unless the item is a high price point. all those &%%^&^^ fees eat up your profits.Unfortunately when I compared the responses between ebay yahoo and amazon , it was clear that ebay gets more traffic. Any idea why amazon is dead in comparison to ebay and yahoo?

To finish the title.

Q: How long does it take a Powerseller to ship an item that you won?

A: We will never know. You cannot get them to respond to an e-mail to let you know.

I agree with pelorus on the above statement.
More and more sellers are also making the bulk of their profit by charging the buyers very hefty s/h prices. eBay's best chance at getting the very low priced items moved over to Half where they can get a much larger fee is to make a minimum start bid of at least $5. Why they are reluctant to do this I do not know.

It seems to me that in area like this where a Powerseller is doing nothing but giving their merchandise away to maintain their precious status with mother Meg that they are driving the prices in the dirt to where nobody can sell anything on E-Bay and have no alternative but to quit or sell elsewhere.Once they have killed the market,it does not come back...its over.Lucky for E-Bay this is not in every catagory this happens,or they would not even be an auction, they would die if all they had were penny auctions.

To answer your question, remember one thing alot of the merchandise these powersellers are running they don't own. They order it after you bid it in.I could probably make a killing if I operated like that, but I just don't have to gall to treat people like that as I like to ship everything as soon as its payed for.

willsell:

Amazon is dead because they don't promote their 3rd party sellers listings. Other than marketplace books, cds and videos, its tough to sell anything there when they keep your listings hidden. A couple of years ago when they had Auctions and Zshop tabs, sales were very good there, better than Ebay for me.
