Couldn't seller pop for the shipping on this one?

OTOH, would a buyer that could afford this item even care about a little shipping fee, which, BTW, is not stated?

For that amount of moola, ya's think they'd invest in a SPELL-CHECKER so they could "cease the moment" better!

LOL
Maybe they want you to cease reading and bid!

I'm sure if you fork over 22 grand the seller will ship for free I mean media mail is on like $2.50.

Hey if you're lucky he'll ship it priority mail.

I'm just wondering why someone would even list a first edition copy of THE HOBBIT on ebay.

I am even more amazed at the way he opened up the book just for the photo.

The way it is shown means the spine is no longer "tight" - which lowers the value of the book.

Ooops, there goes some money down the drain.

I buy lots of books on the auctions. Whenever I see that a seller has spread open a book in that way, I immediately back out of the auction.

Books are not meant to be opened like that. It breaks the binding.

Also, I like to see that inside and the outside of a book. So many sellers show just the front cover, or a page from the inside. I want to see the cover and inside page.

You don't know what the seller paid for this, he may be making only a few hundred dollars profit. In this case the seller should charge full shipping. With the high start bid, looks to me he did pay a bundle for this book and is protecting his investment.

I don't know if it's still there, but just a few lines under it was another 1st edition, same year. I believe it was $35 with about 14 bids on it. Don't quote me on it, though, I didn't go back and check.

Believe it or not I own a set dated 1970's(yes, bought off eBay). Yearsssss ago (none of your biz when), my 5th grade teacher read the Hobbit to the class. Now, a generation later, my son wanted it after learning about it at school.

Assuming it was out of print,I checked eBay. They had tons of them and were being bid up the wazoo. I was shocked to learn that this series has been reprinted so many times and is still coming out with new printings.

Now my son wants Simarillion which is a PREQUIL (what is WITH these prequils?).
