Why does it really matter?
Yes, one more thread about feedback because I just do not understand.
I realize that feedback is very important to a newbie. I get that part!
What I do not get is those of use with lots of feedback, say over 500 - does it really matter if you get more?
ebay does not charge you differently for the more feedback you have. NOW that would be an incentive to work at getting bidders to leave feedback.
Personally, I leave feedback for every completed sale. It is part of my system. I have received almost 3000 feedback but have probably left close to 6000. I use VRANE to post me feedback and usually left around 50 in less then 5 minutes.
YEs, I do read my feedback everytime the rating changes. I love to see my repeat customers leave feedback. I am pround of the fact that I have over 800 repeat customer feedback.
BUT really, what does it really matter (except when you have less than 50 or so).

In my experience it does matter.
It doesn't seem to matter as much the amount of negs you have as it does your feedback rating. I've noticed several times that some people who have purchased from us have almost exclusively purchased from people who had ratings above 1000 and most were close to or over 2000.
It seems that some newbies feel safer purchasing from higher feedback sellers.

Feedback only matters to a seller. Imagine fifty fresh negs on top of your feedback profile. Might hurt sales? Fifty fresh negs means nothing to a snipe bidder; or a bidder that bids on my line, because I don't check feedback.

Morgantown,
You are completely wrong. I check the feedback of all bidders of mine. If I come across someone that had good feedback to start, but has become a deadbeat, I will cancel that persons bid and block them so other good bidders will have a real chance to win the item. I also use it to determine if I should give someone extra time to pay for an item or cut my losses and move on sooner. If you are one of those that don't leave negs on deadbeat bidders, please get out of the online auction business as you are not doing anyone any favors.

The way to get rid of deadbeat bidders is to file for final value fees. Four such filings by different sellers will get the bidder kicked off eBay.

It's actually three filing, and I agree, that is the BEST way to deal with deadbeats. Looking at their feedback and cancel their bids? Do you know how easy it is to get an ebay ID? They could be back bidding on your auction in 3 minutes, and then decide to really not pay.
As a seller, I really don't care if I get feedback, as long as it isn't negative. I have a pretty high feedback number.
The question is why do buyers obsess with feedback? What difference does it make to them.
