Hi,

I was wondering if someone could share some knowledge or provide the script or code that I could add to my auctions that would prevent people from right clicking on the screen and being able to steal my pictures and or my whole layout.

Any advice or help would be extremely helpfull.

Thanks in advance, xannie

That annoying script is pointless. All a person has to do is go to View and Source to get your picture URL's.

Do a search for noright.js on Google. If someone wants to steal your picture -- they will. The internet is an open place. Embedding pictures as a "Flash" would make stealing very difficult, but even that can be hacked into with the right person and software.

There is another problem with that script. I often have 5 explorer windows open at once. Instead of changing pages, I often right click on a page link and open the link in a new window. I do not have to "go back" and just closed apage when finshed viewing it.

If I right click and am unable to open your "other auctions" or any other links on the page, I just move on. The ones that use this script often lose a sale from me.

REAMOND -- slightly off topic but you would benefit from using Crazy Browser. It designed for you in mind.

Anyone using paint shop pro will get around any script you put on it anyway. What is does is actually copy the on-screen image and not copy the script. It is kind of a sad thing that people do steal images, I even had my whole auction stolen word for word a couple of times and I did e-mail the person that did do it to tell them I was not happy about it. In reality, there is not a whole lot that you can do about it other than to move on and hope to sell your item as well.
Good luck,
bp

Everyone of you have a valid point. But Im sick of filling out refunds for pennies and Im damn tired of someone stealing my whole layout of an auction.

Yes, its not a 100% guarantee but it should deter some of the small fry.

Thanks for all your help and a big thanks goes out to the person who emailed me the script.

REAMOND -- I like Crazy Browser because it only takes up one Task Bar item and browser windows are set up as Tabs. It uses the IE rendering engine, but contains none of the bloat of IE. It is incredibly fast and find it really useful when I need multiple browser windows :: http://www.crazybrowser.com

Best of all, no need to "install" it. It runs out of the zip file.

Disabling the right click function isn't going to stop layout or picture thieves. It has more chance of annoying your buyers that it does of offering you any protection. I frequently use the right click to open the other auctions listed when I'm looking at a seller's listing.

I hope you reconsider.

Some pics and code are "lifted" in paste and click style to be "copied" in another form by others, not just for auction listing "theft." There are many items, especially craft and art, that are lifted in this manner. I don't think most users are that computer savy to do any more than copy and paste. For some, right click disable is a good feature and isn't likely that those it bothers are the types who bid on some of these items. Many don't even know hot keys for such actions, but only right click. Heck, lots people have a hard time just mailing a payment. JMHO. It's nice to know the drawbacks, but I do think right click disable has its place.

I used to take the time to put text on my pictures..enough so that it is near impossible to steal my pictures. But now I just frankly don't care if anyone uses my pictures. I don't see the big deal actually. I have more important things to do than worry about people taking pictures that you can find all over the net anyway with the click of a search button.

I do delete my pictures from my listings as soon as it ends though.

I leave my pictures till I'm certain the buyer has received his item so he can compare it to the auction and also so he can also show his friends what he bought on eBay and is coming in the mail.
