I'm looking for any words of wisdom from experienced sellers on what forms of payment I should accept as a new seller. I'll be selling mainly clothing, some new, some used. Most things I sell will be low cost (5, 10, up to maybe 30 bucks?).
Anyway, I've tried reading about paypal fees, billpoint fees, etc. Too much info to wade through.
Then, I'm also afraid of being too restrictive just because of the fees and turning potential bidders away.
Any advice on how to get started? Should I accept checks (w/ or w/o restrictions on fb#)? Should I accept paypal (w/ or w/o cc payments)?
Any advice would be really appreciated.

I would hate to think that a buyer would look at one of my auctions and say "Wow, I would have bid if only they had accepted..."
I hate the fees too, but I want to give the buyer as many choices as possible. I'm not against the fees, I have a traditional merchant account too, but what bugs me about paypal is that we get a change in terms of service every few months. Makes me wonder what is coming next with that company..

Accept what you feel comfortable with. I sell low priced items as well and have no problem getting bids just accepting paypal w/o credit cards and money orders. Paypal has more options then just credit cards and existing funds..buyers can also pay with an e-check and instant transfer from their checking acct. If you choose to just have the standard Paypal acct..make sure you state in your listings that you do accept Paypal but only if buyer using existing funds, e-check or instant transfer and always have that payment info in your winning bidder notice too. Once in awhile I get a CC payment thru Paypal and have to deny it because I am not a premier business member and if that happens I just email the buyer and let them know. Doesnt happen too often though.
