There are two parts to my question.

One, the new Customer Relationship Management tool that allows you to import your customer list from AW into a mailing list. Coulden't this be considered spamming?

Two. Isn't this against EBay policies.

I could be very agressive using it and could see getting into trouble.

One, the customer function is not new.

Two, if you abuse any e-mail facility you're going to get into trouble.

I always ask my winners if they want to receive additional information from me.

I only send mail to those that want it and >>always<< indicate they can drop out by simply saying so.

Ok so it is not new. I just haven't used that feature yet because I had not know about it. So it is new to me!

There are abuses and ways to manage them. But there are always the "fanatic spam killer guy" that will hunt you down until your banned from sending email to your grandmother. Asking to be removed is not enough for some people.

In my case, I could import all my buyers because I have not asked them if they want to recieve info from me. They would all have to get the first email and then opt out. Sometimes all it takes is one to report you to eBay.

My advice to you is this.......

Delete all the old people and start from scratch.

With all of your new auctions and in the future ask in your EOA if they want to be added to a new listing notice list or something to that extent.

Some guy a month ago came here and announced he had taken 4,000 emails from former customers he had aquired through ebay and AW auction management over a span of 2 years+ and sent a bulk listing advertising his new website.

It was not a suprise that he said that people reported him directly to Ebay as a spammer violating their TOS.

Big no-no

Just because someone bought something from you on an auction site 3 years ago does not give you the right to contact them at this late date.

Start fresh and get everyones approval first.

Oh, and just so you know ('cause I found out the hard way)...

When you decide to import the customer information (say, for today), all you will get is the information from the past three months of active listings that you have on eBay. Anything that rolls off of eBay cannot be imported - so that is one limitation.

Also, the CM software has NO link to the information that was entered in the WBN.

So you will merely get an eBay user ID and an e-mail ID - no name or address or phone.

Good luck!
