Microsoft's free Web Embedding Fonts Tool (WEFT) allows web page designers to display web pages using fonts not installed on a user's system. WEFT creates a compressed font file which is downloaded onto the user's system. A <STYLE> tag is used to specify the name and location of the EOT file.

You can use WEFT to add *any* fonts to your eBay ads. Here's a test auction I created using Aristocrat font:

Microsoft's WEFT page is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/weft3/

WEFT is free. If you know a bit of HTML, usage is pretty straightforward. Use WEFT to generate the compressed font EOT file. Upload it to your server. Link to the EOT file using the <STYLE> tag (see instructions).

Here are a couple of troubleshooting tips I discovered:

1) WEFT automatically generates the <STYLE> code necessary to display your font(s). <STYLE> tags are normally placed within the <HEAD> of a web document. Since you don't have access to the <HEAD> of an eBay auction page, copy the <STYLE> tag and its contents and paste it at the top of your item description. (You won't use <HEAD> or <BODY> tags in your eBay item description.)

2) You'll create a sample web page containing your fonts, which WEFT will analyze. You can create an EOT file containing only certain characters, or containing the entire character set. To create an EOT file with all the font's characters (suitable for reuse), select "No Subsetting" in the Subsetting drop down box.

3) WEFT contains a security feature which prevents your EOT file from being accessed by servers other than those you explicitly permit. To allow your EOT file to be accessed by eBay's servers (so your customers can see it), in WEFT's Create Font Objects dialog box, click the Mirror Sites button and add the following servers:

cgi5.ebay.com (Sell Item Preview Page)
cgi.ebay.com (View Item Page)

If you forget this part, your EOT file won't be viewable on eBay.

That's it. Let me know if I've forgotten anything. Good luck and have fun. (I don't know if this works with Netscape.)
