The post office is as bad as eBay you pay for a service but don't get it.

Yep ~ you got that right !!
They lost (or so say the buyers) 2 packages over the last 2 weeks.... from now on I am going to use delivery confirmation or I'll go broke at this rate !!
But hey ~ received all of my free boxes today from USPS !!

Actually, it is several days. I do believe they got hammered on Monday (Tax Day) and have not really recovered.
Here's what I received yesterday morning (Thursday) in response to an inquiry I posted:
[i]
Dear USPS Customer,
Thank you for taking the time to notify us regarding this problem. We are
aware that there is a problem with Track/Confirm and we have contacted the
appropriate department to resolve this issue.
Unfortunately, we don't have a time estimate for the correction of this
problem; however, we thank you for your continued patience in this matter
and thank you for supporting the USPS.

They may be running behind on the TRACK/CONFIRM feature, but it apparently hasn't slowed down Priority Shipping.
I had an auction close Monday nite. Buyer used PP Tuesday morning and I mailed Tuesday afternoon. Just got the nicest email from a thrilled buyer who couldn't believe how fast I got her package to her. She received it Thursday morning.
I answered I try and ship same day as payment is received, and I would love to take all the credit but the majority of it had to go to the USPS this time.
From TX to PA in under 2 days! That's one of my best times using Priority.
So as to stay on topic:
It's a good thing it got there so promptly, I used DC but wouldn't find that of much use right now would I?

IBM runs the DC query system for USPS, and I happened to be in a meeting with the IBM project manager yesterday. She said they had a very sigificant meltdown and that dispite a major effort they are still down after 3+ days.
However, the package data are intact. And new information is still being fed into the system. It's just that no one can currently access it!
The API message this AM says that they expect the system to return on Sunday 4/21. As others have noted, actual package delivery is not impacted by this outage.
