Now I know why it's not a good idea to have your email as your user name. I know, probably everybody else already knew that. I sold a rather expensive item for a family member and after the auction was over received an email from a woman stating she was the winner, what were the shipping charges and my address. Something about the email just made me suspicious, maybe because it wasn't signed and she didn't leave me her address right away. I went back to the auction and the winner was using an email address for her user name and it didn't match. I thought oh well maybe one was home and one was work, but I still sent the winner an email asking to confirm that she had contacted me. Guess what, it wasn't her! Then I went into the bid history because I thought well maybe they both put the same top bid amount in and didn't realize whoever puts it in first wins. That wasn't the case either. I probably shouldn't have responded to the first lady but I did send her back an email that said Ebay didn't recognize her as the winner of the auction and I was sorry if she was disappointed. Am I missing something, I am still somewhat puzzled. Somebody just trying to play games? Has anybody else had this happen to them?

This is different.

It sounds to me that this other person was attempting to get you to sell the item to her by pretending to be the winning bidder.

If you hadn't been suspicious and checked your high bidder may have ended up not getting the item she bid on.

I would have let the other person send me some money if they wanted to. If they are that dumb then they deserve to get taken.

This is your last chance to send me a dollar.

Whenever I get an email about a sold item that is came from a different email address then the winner - I email both address, the winning email address and the other.

I explain that I received an email from [email protected] and to ensure no mix up I need an email from the winning email with the ship to name and address.

This usually gets a quick response from the winning email address. Many times it is ok but a few times I have had someone try to "steal" the item from the winner.

When that happens I report it to ebay. Not that they do anything. I just think they should know.
