Hi - I was hoping someone could tell me how to put a background design on my About Me page at eBay - it looks naked! I had a nice one, it was hosted at geocities but after 2 years it has vanished and it doesn't seem to work anymore via geocities. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Here's one way.

At the top of the HTML code - right after the comment, insert something like the following:

<div style="background-image: url('http://www.nipissingu.ca/faculty/halld/friend.gif')">

The DIV tag says "start a section"

The style attribute says "use a cascading style sheet for this section"

The background-image property says "use this URL to obtain the image"

Make sure you use a </div> tag at the end of your page, right before the ending comment.

hope that helps...

Here's how you do it. Simple, effective.

<BODY background=http://myserver.com/mybackground.jpg>

No </BODY> tag needed; eBay will do that for you. And you can put that <BODY> tag anywhere in the document.

(Obviously you want to substitute your real URL for http://myserver.com/mybackground.jpg)

The <BODY> tag is bad code, though it does work in Internet Explorer. The <DIV STYLE=...> is correct, although it only adds a background to the description section of the page, not the whole page.

This is what I use, to get a full page background in both Netscape and IE. Again, it's bad code, but it works.

<body background="http://www.myserver.com/mypic.jpg">
<style> <!--Body {background: url(http://www.myserver.com/mypic.jpg)}--> </style>

Thank you for the help. I went to Netscapes "The Background Sampler" and just used one of the backgrounds there. You can use them directly from their server or copy them. My high school daughter helped me tweak the html to make it work. Ahh, I'm happy now!

The attribute is bgcolor.

<div bgcolor="lightblue">

or

<body bgcolor="#00FF33">

Here is one (of a thousand) pages that have the colors and numbers:
