Hi Everyone,

I would really like your input on what you think about having a collection service help collect on those unpaid auctions or bad checks. I am a seller on Ebay and have come across just a few nonpaying bidders and one bad check. Do you think this idea of having a third party contact them in a diplomatic fashion would help anyone? Please leave comments or suggestions.

Have a good one.

I don't know about your bad check, but I would send a non pay bidder alert to the nonpay bidders and then in 10 days after that file for FVF. Move on and don't bother them only to give them a negative in their feedback. I have only had a couple, but it seems that they are getting closer and closer...What the buyers don't understand, well maybe they do, that sellers spend alot of time on their auctions and then they bid and no response. I don't understand why they bid if they are not going to follow through.

I am in credit and believe me third party collectors are not usually diplomatic. I use them because of the high volume I deal with. However, I would not recommend them for personal collections. If you use third party collectors you MUST be familiar with their practices. If they break the law, and some do, you will be held responsible as they are an agent acting for you. For non-paying bidders it is best just to file with eBay and get your fees back and then block them from bidding in the future. For bad checks I would file a police report. Kiting checks is against the law. Another way to handle bad checks is to draft a standard formal letter stating the local laws and giving them 72 hours to respond. State that if they do not respond you will file police report and they will be arrested, wherever they live. This will usually do the trick.

Hope this helps!!
