I received an email, in the subject line was 'Question for Seller' with no item number, like they do through the ebay system.

The person wrote this, copied and pasted, but i took out her name

Hello you bid on auction #2018305072 but you were out bid. I was
thinking of listing my plate but i thought I should offer it to you
first
and see if you would be interested. It is the same plate as shown on
that
auction. My price is $40.00 + shipping and insurance 6.30 . Please let
me know. I'm planing to list it next week.
Tank you. xxxxx xxxx

Well.... I have not bid on anything in a month, I won a CD about a month ago, and have not bid on anything since.
First thought was that my account was hacked... but no... this seller, looked her up (no I'm not a net cop ) and she is selling. I looked up that ebay auction, its not her, but she says she has one also...
I don't know, is this desperation. How did she even think of emailing me with that offer. Yes I checked that auction, and I am not on the bidding history. I'm stumped.

What would you do, if anything

Thanks

she may have emailed you mistakenly? I don't think I would do anything. just ignore it.

I have gotten email like this from a newbie seller (before they realized this was considered bottom feeding). But usually that was for something I had bid on.

I think I would just ignore the email.

My best guess is she clicked on the auction, then to the back bidder, checked to see what else they were bidding on, clicked on your auction, then accidentally typed your email address instead of theirs.

Please don't tell my English teacher about that awful run on sentence!

If it was me, I'd probably let her know how I felt about her skimming bidders from my auction. Then I would notify eBay and forward the emails.
