I bid on the following titles of videos, to resell on eBay since they were so cheap I bid.
I then emailed the guy after the auction because he was offering me more copies even cheaper. I asked if these are original copies he responded.
none of these shows have ever been officially released
so this is the only way to get these great rare shows
STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE cartoon series complete (1546084686) $15
CHALLENGE OF THE SUPERFRIENDS VHS video (1546085526) $15
THE SMURFS smurf vhs video volume one (1546487498) $9.99
FAT ALBERT Bill Cosby 1970's TV series 5 VHS (1546187805) $39.54
RAINBOW BRITE $20
$108.00 US FUNDS TOTAL INCLUDES SHIPPING
Can I back out of this deal, since I believe it is illegal.

I think you will get VIRO with Fat Albert. They are working on a new movie. If they are not officially made and sold videos, they are pirated and subject to Viro removal. I don't know if they are Illegal (can you be sued or sent to jail), but I wouldn't risk it for the few $ you will make on them.

If they were never released, that means he taped them from the television - that violated copyright laws. I would think you can back out of this deal and have ebay on your side. There was a thread not too long ago about someone who was suspended for selling copies of televised sporting events.

What ihula said.
If you want a graceful way out of this deal, ask the seller this: "Are you authorized by the Copyright Owner to distribute this material in this format in North America" (assuming that is where you are located). If he says "yes", ask for proof. If he says "no", tell him you are not interested in illegal home made junk.
That should terminate any future correspondence with the bootlegger.
If you do go ahead with this and try the resale thing, you'll be just as guilty as the seller and subject to the same penalties.
