I have an auction that ends in about 4 hours. it's a signed mercedes benz poster that I bought at a rummage sale for $2.00. I didn't know who the signature was, and neither did the previous owner. I just received this email from someone:
"i can tell you who the signature is.that's 5 times world f1 champion juan manuel fangio. i paid around $250 for that poster you have.fangio is deAD now and his signature usually goes for quite a bit."
The bidding is at $47.00. What would you do? End the auction? Try to add to the description?? Let it ride because it's still more than I started out with and it's the "right" thing to do?

You've already made $45.00 profit, be happy!
It's not over yet!
If it's worth $250.00 you'll get $250.00!
Cancelling an auction is a buyer beware, greedy seller! You may not do as well next time.
I was high bidder on an auction one time and with 2 hrs. to go they cancelled, would never look at one of his auction's again!
You decide, you do what you feel is the right thing to do!!

Maybe this person that emailed you paid to much for the poster. If it is worth that much it will probably take a big jump at the end of the auction and if not $47.00 for a $2.00 investment is nothing to cry about.

I did add to the description who the signature was in big bold red letters, so at least if someone was doing a search it will come up in title and descriptions. It's up to $81.00 since I did that, so I guess it helped. You're right, I can't end it...it's just not the right thing to do in this situation. I don't want to go to ebay he**

I thought you could not add to the description in the last 12 hours. I know I can't.

I don't know - it added just fine, though and the auction ends tonight at 8:00 central time.

Says here ...
You may add to your item description if your item does not:
have a bid, AND
end within 12 hours

On Jul-03-02 at 14:17:57 PDT, seller added the following information:
I JUST LEARNED FROM A BUYER THAT THE SIGNATURE IS 5 TIMES WORLD F1 CHAMPION JUAN MANUEL FANGIO

That's very strange that I was able to add to the description then (unless I'm reading that wrong). I had bids and it was less than 12 hours - you can tell by the time stamp.

I would end the auction, cancel the bids and write an explanation an error was made and it will be relisted. Of course, you might not even get the $81 then but I would take the gamble.
