Hello
I am not sure how many times to relist an item.
I have some things that are not that rare, in fact most are shoes and other odds and ends.
If I relist a third time, will I get my fees back if it ever sells?
Are people cutting prices?
I sold a remote second time around, and it went for more than my opening bid the first time (learned there! Low opening bids)
Just thinking out loud...

i have a new policy only listing unique items at ebay due to fees,& not relisting over 1-2 times unless really rare.
common items are better off at a yard sale or one of the free to list sites where it can sit for awhile.
for us summer are the slowest months,& with the problems ebay has had lately (go to ebay home page, click on site map at top,see community then discussion boards, then see on left click on tech board link) a real eye opener.
if they are the real expensive shoes & almost new & you have a deal for someone normally it will sell, but not on 4th of July week & weekend. some things you must save for fall & xmas time.look at compareable items (not the ones listed with no bids LOL) look at completed to compare & see if the fees are worth it.good luck not real easy these days used to be i would stick with unusual items
with them down so much it probably isn't worth relisting at all unless expensive unusual item..edited here to mention..
check announcement board at ebay,& be sure & check your bank accounts they double billed some people(& they bought paypal YIKES what next?)LOL

If your item sells on the third try you will end up paying 3 listing fees. Ebay only refunds if they item sells the second time through. On the third time it doesn't qualify as a relist.

Heck, I don't even like relisting it once most of the time. It's a game of double-or-nothing. I usually spend a nickel by listing the eBay items that didn't get a bid on Yahoo for 10 days. Many things that do not get a bid on eBay go on Yahoo. I'd rather go that route than to risk another 30 cents on eBay with a relist.

Don't give up!! I used to sell used Cole Haan shoes on ebay. Two summers ago, I listed two NICE pairs starting at $5 each. Didn't get ANY bids. Relisted immediately. Same story. Figured I was going to 'eat' these shoes (couldn't wear them- not my size).

Anyway, I put them away and relisted them in Sept or Oct. Both went for $40 each and the bidding was hot.

Moral of the story: I don't sell during the summer unless it is season-specific stuff (bicycle stuff, etc) and even then I usually just won't. Hold on to your goods and try again in the fall.

I relist twice. The second time I lower my opening bid hoping that someone will want it and if not it goes into a box for a rummage sale. Twice is enough for me.

My relist rule is to relist the item once, slashing the starting bid and adding a BIN at or near the original starting bid. Many sell at the BIN price during the first day, others get the BIN stomped but eventually sell by the end of the auction (sometimes at above the BIN price). Anything that doesn't sell on the relist gets clumped into a box lot of similar stuff at a rock-bottom starting bid that almost always sells.

it depends on the item . I have had items take off on the third or evan forht relist.

one item that comes to mind was listed four times no change, no bids , forth listing two peaple decided they wanted it and it took off.

in general I will relist at least three times . before I drasticly cut the price or combine with other items. but evan there I have listed threee times cut price on forth listing and had the item take off.

spock here......

Just copy the add and then list it like a new one after 2 times and the 3rd will be free. Simply don't send it to Ebay as a "relist".

Hey Thanks!
Many very helpful tips!
Strange how you have an item, and think, MAN this is so nice! then you realize your digital pix (from a video camera, but tomorrow my digital camera comes in and I can use it...YES!!!) or see another 50 billion of the same item, or realize the Feng Shui thing is soooo '90s...
Learning curve!

ps...now if I could get some tips on avoiding "listing butt" I would be very happy!

I don't see how the 3rd listing will be free. Maybe it's just late and I'm not thinking clearly. Please explain..

The fourth relist would be free if the item sold but not the third.

One of the most confusing aspects of eBay is the listing/relisting fees. I would be willing to wager that 25% of all sellers do not fully understand the fee structure. What makes it confusing is eBay seems to say the listing is free if it sells the second go round but usually forgets to add the 'if the item sells within 30 days of the closing date of the first or else a second listing fee is charged'.
The selling of the contents of a kitchen junk drawer gets expensive when the items do sell and twice as expensive when the relists fail. That's an expensive lesson to learn.

I relist almost every thing twice (total of 3 listings), but wait almost 30 days between listings figuring that over time the ebay lookers change. It's definitely profitable to do this, and I am always pleased how many items sell the second and third time around.

Of course, you have to be listing attractive items at a good price for this to work. If you are listing crap it won't sell, period.
