Does anyone happen to know which language the 6 characters are on this item? I've looked up several different alphabets on Google but can not determine this language.
Thanks

Is it a fleur de lis door knocker? Can't help you out with the lettering.

I've gotten a Latin response on another mesage board. My next question is "Is this the Boy Scout emblem?" It is part of an award plaque of some type. I have looked at several various Scout emblems and the Fleur De Lis pattern with stars and a rope dangling are common features on many Scout emblems.
example ....

This may sound dumb, But if it's the Boy Scout Emblem.
Call a troop and as them what it means.
You can find them in the yellow pages.

It must say "Be Prepared" in Latin. The animal on the emblem appears to be a large wild cat with fangs like a jaguar. Every emblem I saw on the web had an eagle instead. Very odd which is good.

It is either a French door knocker or a BSA emblem. I can't see the wild cat,. I see an Eagle. Of courseafter 2 bottles of wine with my LOVE, it could be anything. LOL

I agree that it might help to know what the object itself is. (And I only see 5 letters...)
I'm thinking military, maybe a specific division, but if it's a door knocker, I won't pursue those thoughts.
Can you access a Russian alphabet? (I believe it's also called Kryllic, or something like that.)

It's difficult to see the 4 long fangs in the photo due to the 3D nature of the Boy Scout emblem. I don't think eagle have fangs or their ears showing the way a Jagaur or similar cat would.

But then again I have never seen a cat with a beak? We must be looking at this pic very differently.

This is an eagle, not a lion! One can clearly see the head and beak.

Maybe the 4 things that appear to be fangs are part of the backdrop like thunderbolts or something.
I'm glad it's an eagle.
Next question. If it is a Latin inscription why isn't in the form of English-like letters such as the "E Pluris Unim" found on the American money? Two of the characters are very unique, an upsidedown capital letter A and a symbol that looks like a letter X with a bar on top.
There must be different Latin alphabets?

I am an Eagle Scout and scout leader for an American Boy Scout troop. I have been to the World Scouting Jamboree, meeting scouts and scouters from nearly every country. I do not recall ever seeing this emblem before. There is alot of likeness to the official Boy Scout emblem though.
There seems to be a double picture, depending on how you look at it. At first I saw an eagle, but after someone mentioned a cat, I also see it as a lion or cat of some kind. Very interesting item.
I suggest looking at examples of Hebrew, Russian, Arabic, and other mid-easter writings.
my 2 cents,
Rob

This reminds me of a Rorschach test.
I quickly checked the Latin, Hebrew, Russian and Arabic alphabets and couldn't find a match. It is an interesting emblem. How large is it?

It's about 5 inches tall and part of a very ornate plaque. There is also a pewter rectangular plate for an honoree's name and the plaque has a very elaborate metal supporting leg in the back where the plaque can be placed on a table or desk like a framed picture.
My new quest at swap meets is to only purchase very unusual items for ebay for very low sums. I'm doing well with several $100+ items that cost well under five dollars each. Where I live everyone seems to be from a foreign country so there are lots of very unusual items at the swap meets. Beats fishing as a hobby.
