Just sent a 2lb 2.6oz package from 07727 to 98040 (NJ to Wa state). Would you believe $8.55?

And your customers will love you for it!
East Coast to West Coast usually 2 days!

Try that with the others at any price.

I ship exclusively Priority Mail and many of the packages ship at the 3 to 4 pound rate. I add $1 to the actual cost and my customers are very happy with that. As mentioned in a previous response, you can ship a package across country in 3 days or less.

I would use Priority Mail FLAT RATE if it fits/squeezes into the envelope, and use FED EX for everything else...

Priority Rates are crazy! And my Post Master complains about them every day, scared they will put him out of work! BUT- Even at the high prices they still offer the best service of all the carriers!

Free packaging delivered to your house, fast 6 day a week delivery, free pick up if your in good with your mailman

Even if you can't get your mailman to pick up, the offices are located close by.

The other services are slow unless you pay a lot more for some special service, no free packaging, no 6 day a week delivery, and pickup! The last time I called UPS they wanted $20.00 to come pick it up and their closest office is 26 miles from me, put it at a UPS drop center and they want $10.00 to leave it set on their floor till the driver comes pick it up.

Even though USPS IS so much higher than it used to be, IT IS still the best service for the money!!!

Very frequently the buyer is in no rush to receive the auction item ( early Christmas shopping for example ). The buyer now pays a very large and unnecessary Priority Mail premimum because the seller thinks that's the way to go for his buyers. All sellers should over at least two shipping methods and the default should always be the cheapest method. Tell them that the travel time may be 10-14 days when offering the cheapest method.
The high Priority Mail rates may turn off many ebay buyers from visiting the site in the future.

Sure $8.55 for no insurance, no guarantees, no tracking and if no one is there to take it in hand, it is just dropped on the ground outside in the weather for thieves to pick up. All for only 8.55!
.
A Man will spend $2.00 for a $1.00 item he needs.
A Woman will spend $1.00 for a $2.00 item she doesn't need.

Your theory may be correct in many cases!

BUT As for myself!

I only buy on line when I what something, I stay up all night to bid, I pay instantly and the last D**n thing I want is to have my item delivered 2 weeks later after paying a fee that should have gotten it to me in 2-4 days!

The USPS Will get it to me in the time I expect it!

Also I'd like to add:

A while back when the anthrax scare was on I sold a Sweater to a lady who wanted me to send it UPS.
The item that would have shipped for $8.00 Priority, went for $17.00 UPS.

She E-mailed me 3 weeks later to tell me she got it!

Another time a lady said she had a UPS acct. and she would send me a label: And all I would need to do is call UPS and they would come right out and pick it up.
When I called UPS they said they would come get it for $20.00.
Or just give it to a driver no charge!
That's what I did!
I sat at Doughnut shop waiting for a UPS driver, You would have thought I was mugged waiting for a Cop!!!

All I ask is that ebay sellers consider offering different shipping methods other than just Priority Mail. As an example, many ebay jewelry sellers sell very lightweight items yet will not offer any shipping option other than Priority Mail. A three ounce item can be sent by insured First Class Mail in a 20 cent bubble mailer for $2.30 but instead many sellers only offer a $3.85-$4.50 uninsured Priority Mail method. That makes no sense at all yet a huge percentage of the sellers of lightweight auction items only use the unnecessary Priority Mail.
Most book buyers are in no rush to get their books and instead of a $2.50 Media Mail charge they are stuck with a hefty Priority Mail charge. The sellers offering only Priority Mail shipping are doing a lot of subtle damage to ebay in my opinion. It was very bad damage before the 6/30 rate hikes but now it does very, very bad damage to the overall health of ebay.
End of sermon.

Because I sale a wide range of items, I am never stuck on just Priority Mailing, it depends on the size of the item and the weight, I am always trying to give my Customers the best and fastest way to ship. anything to keep the overall price down.

seyms, you sound surprised. Those rates went into effect months ago. Next time you are at the PO pick up the ratefold sheet, notice 123. It has all the new rates.

Because your pkg. weighed 2.6 oz over 2 lbs.,it went at the 3 lb rate. I am very careful to watch the weight on the small pkgs that ship by Priority Mail. If it is over 2 lbs, I send it by FedEx ground. $6.25 vs $8.55 + $1.30 for ins. My TOS states that will sahip at the lowest cost. Under 2 lbs, there isn't a greatdeal of difference.
