I am having difficulty launching a couple of my auctions. The error message from eBay is that it is not a "leaf category", whatever that means. The problem is with non-electric lamps and salt/pepper shakers. I have two antique lamps to list, and used #4057. I got the number from eBay's list - what else can I do? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The non-electric lamps category "branches" out to:
Categories
Lamps: Non-Electric
Gas (157)
Kerosene (978)
Miniature (307)
Oil (1126)
Other Non-Electric (184)
Those sub-categories are "leaf" categories in the "listing tree". You will have to choose one of the 5 leaf or subcategories to list your item. I didn't check the shakers but it must be the same situation.

Thanks for your assistance. Now I get what "leaf" means! I was able to launch my lamps, and I did use the specific categories (one was oil, the other kerosene). However, the category for oil lamps was 4061 and for kerosene lamps, 4059. Different to the numbers you have ... wierd!
Most importantly, I did get the lamps launched ... whew! I tried the specific category for the salt and pepper shakers (they are figural crabs), but no luck. I'll worry about them another day. They are probably only going to give me a dollar or two profit, so spending hours trying to launch them is not an option.

I am so glad I am not the only one who get's that one on occasion.
I thought the metaphor was funny, makes you feel like a catapiller who took the wrong turn.
