I can honestly say I turned someone in for key word spamming that named off like 10 brands Tommy, gap, old navy etc in the title many of them were abbreviated and in the description they were all spelled out.

That's where terms like prison wages and 25 cents an hour come from. All the hassle for a lousy $2.99 book.

It wouldn't take a lot of sellers doing that to make the descriptive searches on eBay worthless. I'd have reported that auction but when I filled out the info I saw someone else has already filed a complaint.

I agree with you Uaru... that upsets me greatly when doing a search for something and end up finding something like this.

I'm trying to figure out how that was done. Do you suppose there is a big master list like this for sale somewhere to sellers? Or would the seller have made the list once and then used it many times??? It's horrible.

They could have copied and pasted it from another seller. A list could also be copied easily from this auction.

In the box directly under: Also included is the ultimate information cd that you see all over ebay.

Look at this sleaze ball if you really want to see the height of keyword spamming (or as low as you can get.) You won't see the evidence in the auction though. Click on the 'View' and scroll down to 'Source' on your browser window and look at the keyword spamming he hid in his auction listing. Can you find his list of 2770 keyword spam?

I don't think eBay should give a warning for crap like that. They need to permanently NARU the seller without a second thought. When the keyword spamming is hidden in the source of the auction listing the person knows what they are doing.

uaru I can see the list in the auction in the box under these words "SAMPLE LIST FROM OVER ONE MILLION ITEMS:"

If you scroll in the box you will see all the keywords. It is like the example that I gave above and there are more sellers like this all the time that are messing up the search.

kiara,

Yup, you're right, it was in the box, I didn't see that. A lot of sellers are using that tactic. This type of keyword spamming really needs to be stopped if eBay plans to have a valid search feature.

The other day ebay had this on their announcement board and I thought it may pertain to listings with gross keyword spamming but I guess not?

*** New Compilation Policy and Catalog Policy Update ***

Today, we have updated and clarified our Catalog listing policy and we are introducing a new Compilation and Informational Media policy.

The updated Catalog policy clarifies the rules for listing old and collectible catalogs. Old and collectible catalogs may be listed as long as they follow the guidelines of the new policy.

Please see the complete Catalog and URL Sales policy here.

We are also instituting a new Compilation and Informational Media policy that limits listings that offer “compilations” of items or information.

These listings inhibit the ability of buyers to find items using description search since they include long lists of key words in the description.

Sellers may continue to list compilation and informational items, however, they must do so within the narrow guidelines of the new Compilation and Informational Media policy.

Please see the complete policy here.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-catcurrent.html

Both of these policies become effective Monday, September 9th, however, all currently listed items that are affected by these policies may complete the scheduled listing.

Regards,
eBay

I thought this may stop it?

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-compilation.html
Compilation and Informational Media
Listings that include compilations or informational content on any media are subject to the following restrictions:

The listing may not contain any cross category information (e.g. a listing that contains multiple recipes may not also contain or describe wholesale sources, screen savers, game hints, etc.).
The listing may not contain excessive use of keywords in the description to describe the contents of the compilation or informational media.
The listing can only be listed in the appropriate (e.g. Business & Industrial, Large Lots, Wholesale, informational CD's) category.
The listing may not be combined as a bonus item with any other listing.

I was wondering is it still spamming if they say if you like this auction also see my prada, guess, levi, tommy, gap, and clinique auctions. Is that still considered key word spamming? I had just came across one of those auctions just now.

Looks like someone is giving it to the above mentioned sellers for keyword spamming. I just noticed that all 3 of the auctions mentioned here have been won by the same bidder (with zero feedback and shades). Check it out

Anyone remember what their user ID's were? I would love to look up the other auctions to see if they are doing the same thing or if they're NARU'd
