Just received a Billpoint chargeback from an auction that ended almost 120 days ago.... It was the first word we had ever received that there was a problem with the auction. Hum..
Goods were sent via Priority mail to an address in Hawaii. The address was not recognized using the USPS online label creator, so we sent it Priority Mail under a manual label without delivery confirmation (manually DC forms are way too time consuming for us to want to mess with). My bad, as I know we are going to end up eating this one without the DC.

does billpoint have the same seller protection program as paypal?
if you have a merchant account,dc means nothing.
did you ask billpoint why does it take so long,usually 60 days

How can a chargeback happen after 120 days. I guess it's the same as a check clearing after 10 days. Something is wrong. Did the buyer say they never received your item or didn't they say anything. It's to late to contact a CC company as everything has to be done, I think, in 90 days. Did you write to Billpoint, or try and call them. Did you write to your bidder and find out what the problem is?
Now with the new USPS on line DC, you get a notice that says when you enter an address and it isn't in their database they give you the right address, at least they did when I sent one. I.E. PayPal gave me a confirmed address and the confirmed address was not in the DC system, because that address had 3 cities that were serviced by one Postal Office and it had to be sent to the Post Office that they declared. I think this just started with the new postal rates.

Chargebacks happen to offline retailers all the time too, the person forgets they made the purchase, doesn't want to admitt to their spouse that they made it, someone steals their card, etc.....it's one of the hazards of accepting credit cards, whether you do it offline or online or use an online payment service.
As for the time period, to my knowledge the card holder has 6 months to dispute a transaction.
As for the rest, selling things is risky no matter where you do it.

when i use my paypal debit card AS A CREDIT CARD to buy merchandise and service from bigwig HOME DEPOT,can i do a chargeback after 30 days??

Unless your bank specifically offers a super debit card (BANK of AMERICA's VISA CHECK CARD is backed with "credit card" rights -- rare!), you be SOL when trying to CB with a debit card!
They (DEBIT CARDS vs CREDIT CARDS) fall under DIFFERENT FED LAW!

That happened to me last week. Purchase was back in June, I didn't use delivery confirmation. Guy is NARU'd. I tried to email him several times asking what the problem was - no response. Figured I would eat the $28.00 and the $10.00 billpoint fee - nothing I could do about it. Well, I just went into my billpoint account to write down my deposits for the week and found out there were no deposits - everything is frozen. People are still paying me through billpoint, but they aren't putting any money in my account. Now I'm not sure what to do. Anyone know how long I will be frozen for? Seems unfair. I was willing to eat this chargeback, but now people are paying me and I don't know if I'm ever going to see that money. Yes, I contacted billpoint - no response yet. So look out computerboy - stop taking billpoint payments ASAP!!!

If people keep paying him with billpoint they are going to freeze his account and I don't know how long it takes for him to get his money back. If I would have known they were going to freeze my account I would have stated in my auctions that I prefer not to take billpoint at this time - or something like that. Now people are paying me and who knows when I will see the money. I think it will be longer than 1 week before billpoint is non-existant.
