I bought a nativity set today and it is HUGE! I love it! As it's set up it measures 34" x 17", the tallest figure is 13" high. They are marked "Wales Reg US Pat Off Made in Japan" including the wood manger that lights up AND has a music box. Any information you may have is appreciated. I can't decide if it's a "keeper" or an Ebay item. The ones on Ebay aren't bringing anything (yet).

Must be something with AW? I copied them in URL window and they worked but not here. I copied them in URL window again and saved them to my desktop and then to my free webhosting site.

It's really, really nice! I don't know anything about the maker.

What are the figures made of?

I think Baby J. needs a diaper.

He's working on his axel jump.

I entered the phrase "Wales Reg US Pat Off Made in Japan" in the Google search engine ( 4 year birthday today according to their site ) and got only 3 hits.

I looked for a while for that nativity set on Google with no luck. I know that nativity sets are very collectible on ebay though.

No dates or any other markings on anything in set?

I couldn't find it in my Made in Japan books but the mark is identified as Mark 60.

This was manufactured by Mogi Shoji & Co. and it says they are still in business.

I agree that it looks very nice as most that are manufactured now seem to be made from resin.

glassgrl,

I'm pretty sure this is a (belive it or not) smaller reproduction of a limited life-size series nativity set. My home town church has these identical characters in a life-size version. If I remember correctly, it was specially imported from Italy and each piece was hand-painted. I think there were less than 200 sets made... mostly designated for cathedrals and other large churches (not sure though on the number). I think the life size version our church bought is around 10 years old or so. I'm not sure if this is helpful or not... but I hope it gives you some means of direction!
