Has anyone ever felt guilty about a sale they made? I have a widget that I post everyweek. I use it as a marketing tool-it has always sold, and gets traffic to my other auctions.
I pay less than a dollar for it, sell it for $2.95. This week it went for $12.99!
I am thinking about sending the buyer two of them I feel so guilty takeing their money.
Anyone have any thoughts about this?

I do stuff like that in those rare situations.

Five years ago on ebay it was very common for sellers to throw in bonus items to help get repeat buyers. You still see it today but it is not near as common as the early years of ebay.

I sure do. On four occasions something I pay 90 cents for sold for over 15.00.

Average price I get is 4.50 & even then I feel a little guilty.

My biggest guilt trip was a Noritake figural condiment set I bought for 20.00 twenty years ago, sold for 864.00 to someone in England.

I'm in this business to make a profit & pay bills. Feel guilty over someone getting into a bidding war & driving the price up? No way.
I too have on item I list every week, costs me $6.95, had a bidder who wanted it VERY bad & bid it up to $30.00, then wanted 2 @ that price.

If your buying something for a buck and selling it for 2.95 you need to raise your prices! Never feel guilty about making a profit!

alldings, actually I am only paying 50 cents-but I don't expect to make money on this item-it's very popular and draws bidders to my pages-like the candy and magazines at the checkout counter

Are you doing anything illega? You haven't put a gun to anybody's head have you. Quit feeling guilty. A famous statesman, Bernard Baruch once said, "There is no sin in making a legal profit."

Do you think the seller that has that beer can listing is feeling guilty. I bet not. There is a chance she paid nothing for that can and then again she might have paid a lot. We will never know. Have that guilt for only a moment then get back to selling. Good Luck

Libra Good point. The seller said they found the beer can in the rafters of an old building they own along with many other old things the have sold.

No guilt there, but they might ship & insure free, I would.

Original question was: Has anyone ever felt guilty about a sale they made?

Nope

Nope -- not once, not ever. If you're making a profit legally, ethically and better yet, morally, why feel guilty?

Yesterday, I sold an item that costs me $20.99 for $40.00 $11 over my buy It Now price -- sold another item that costs me $22.99 for $51, etc, etc. I didn't feel the least bit guilty, people bid on the item what they're willing to pay for it, so why should I feel guilty about it?

I don't feel guilty about this, it is the stuff that occasionally goes for a lot above what you expected that makes this fun as a seller, and profitable. I've never had a buyer complain about paying too much, usually these really high bidders are the best, as far as being nice, and sending payment quickly.

sanmar hit it on the head, why feel guilty unless you did something illegal? The buyer determines what they think the item is worth to them.

I used to sell a doll that varied from $6 to $18.00. I decided to use a BIN at $9.99 for the average sell price. Some buyers would send me $10-15 more over the BIN price. Many buyers want to pay a price that seems fair to them.

I wouldn't feel the slightest bit guilty.....but if it makes you feel better....I agree with what Tooltimes said....throw in a bonus(not an extra of the same, something different)....you'll feel better...the buyer will feel better.....and it will lead to future business.........and it's just good friendly business.....these things were common in the good old days....aaahhhh

No, no reason to feel guilty. Matter of fact I would have a huge smile ear to ear.

The buyer decides what the item is worth to them. The bigger the profit margin, the better.

This is sorta kinda related to this thread and to the other one...

Do you suppose the seller of the beer can will feel guilty?

If it were me, I wouldn't.

One time I listed a Dukes of Hazzard enamel belt buckle. I had only paid a quarter for it at the thrift. It went for close to $225. Did I feel guilty? Nope, not a bit.

Kinda makes up for the times something oughta go for a lot and ends up going for a little.

The only time I feel guilty is when I over estimate the shipping by $3.00 or more, but I always refund, so I get over it real quick!
As far as feeling guilty over the final price of my item, ONLY the buyer can determine it's worth!
