No way! From a business standpoint, it would be stupid of them to have a fld this year. Their numbers are good enough to satisfy the stockholders, so there would be no benefit to them to give anything away. If the numbers start to sag near the end of the year, look for a penny gallery week or some such gimmick, but I won't hold my breath waiting for a fld. I think they're holding that in reserve to sooth ruffled feathers in the event of a disaster, such as the big system crash a couple years ago.

Until this past Halloween, I was on the of course they will bandwagon. But now that they did a FLD on Halloween, I am not sure. It has been Ebay's tradition to give it's sellers a FLD as an Xmas gift in December and was sure that would continue. But not so sure any more because of the timing of the last one.
I guess I will continue to assume and hope it will happen just before Christmas as in the past.

I just hope it won't be a fixed price free day again.

I don't know how to easily and quickly convert my auction listings to fixed price items and I do not normally list using fixed price so I lost out on the last one.

I have hundreds of ads ready for a FLD if they will just stick to the old auction format or at least give us a choice.

Lindajean,
Changing to fixed price is easy. Just click the relist link in the closed auction. On the relist your item page click the "<selling format" button and change to fixed price.

dd,

So I do that from Ebay's closed auction page for the relist? And just change it that easy?

That is great. I can't figure out how to change from one format to another through my auction service. I have to set up an Ebay store (through the service, not on Ebay) and pretend it is a store listing, then copy each ad I already have made and then post the copies.

Way over my head.

I hope there will be a free listing day after Christmas. Traditionally I use that day to blow out all the stuff that deadbeats didn't pay for. Using a relisting tool like vrane's, I can list a ton o'stuff.

Lindajean,
Yes, that's all there is to it. I don't use a listing service so I hadn't considered how complicated the switch would be.
You could do a test with an auction relist and just not complete the relist to make sure it works for you.
Good luck,
dd

Well..it is getting close to the time this usually happens. Any bets on whether we will get our "Christmas Present" from ebay this year.

Every time listings lag, they offer some special, so December should be no different. Seems they are getting away from basic free listings, so maybe a free fixed price listings again.

I am going back on the Yes they will have a FLD this year. My prediction will be Thursday the 19th or Friday the 20th. There is a post in the other auctions boards that shows a listing chart for the past few years. There is a major drop in listings every year during this week, and in each of them, Ebay had a free listing day to boost listings. The past two years, it was a Wednesday then last year Thursday. Let's hope the tradition continues.

My prediction is Thursday the 19th. I think Friday the 20th is unlikely because 5 day auctions would end on Christmas day.

Either the 19th, 26th or never.

If they do it, it'll be on a Thursday.

It's always been on a Thursday, as they get the extra fee for the 10 day option.

The Final Value Fees for auctions ending from the 19th will go on this Quarter's financial statements, and the one ending from the 26th won't. It's up to the accountants to decide which is better for eBay.

Maybe those days mentioned but not a totally free listing day like in years past. A free fixed price day or reduced listing price for sub $1 auctions or similar new fangled sale.

If they do, it will be on the 23rd. They will announce it about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday the 22nd, after the big Sunday night listing rush. The 7 day auctions will close on the 30th, which will cause a large revenue receipt which will show for the 4th quarter. The 10 day auctions will carry over into the new year which will show a high listing count at the end of the year. All eye candy for the stockholders.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Just in case anyone from Ebay reads this....

PLEASE give us a good old fashioned FLD -- no discounts for $1.00 auctions, no fixed price or store free listings, just a plain old FLD like you usually do!

I don't use the other formats so haven't been able to take advantage of any of the savings all year!

It would make a really nice Christmas present and it is kind of a tradition.

I agree totally; there's a very good reason for the people at eBay to give us a "good-old fashioned" FLD.

(if anyone from eBay reads this, please consider it because) it's good business practice. If a customer continually buys something from me and something goes wrong with one of the sales (it gets lost or arrives damaged.... or they decide they don't need it afterall), I give them a refund right away and do whatever is necessary to make them happy. In the long run, MY business improves because the next time THAT customer decides to buy anything, they come to me! Hence, if eBay opens their heart and gives their devoted sellers a "good old fashioned FLD", it would be great business practice on their end and really boosts morale!

This has not been a great season for many sellers here; an FLD would be great for us and it wouldn't hurt eBay; it would just make them look great and drum up more business for them in the future.
