Need to do this / have never done it! Is it a hassle? What is the procedure? Thanks in advance for your help and insights!

No. 1, You have to have the damaged goods, the original box & all of the packing material & the Ins. receipt. You will have to take it to a main PO where they have a Customer Service Dept. They will take your pkg, check it over & decide if they should pay or not. Then if they will, they will give you the forms to fill out. After that you will wait about 2 to 3 weeks for payment. Simple isn't it? LOL

I've never had a problem except it seems to take a LONG TIME for them to complete the process. I sent off a package to Europe about a year ago that never got there, I am STILL Waiting for my money. I tend to refund the buyer before payment arrives, because it is such a long process.

usps is no longer so generous in paying its claims,so if you have a pricey item, read the packing guidelines before you go to the post office.
one common reason for denying claim is that there is no visible damage of the outside box.
