I won an auction on December 7. The auction listing had a BidPay logo; the only payment options were check, money order, and BidPay.
I decided to pay by BidPay. I've used their service before and have found it to be very reliable. Every seller I've ever paid with BidPay shipped the item upon receiving the verification email from BidPay that said that the money order has been sent.
(Just like when you get a PayPal payment - as a seller, you ship when you get the notice that payment's been received, you don't wait til the payment has posted to your checking account, right??)
For 4 days after my payment, the seller did not acknowledge my payment or get in touch with me. I emailed him and he finally said, well, yes, I see that you paid by BidPay but I haven't received the money order yet.
I'm really surprised that he would not ship upon verification from BidPay.
Anyone else do this? It's unique in my experience. Do you think I am out of line to expect the book to be shipped upon payment, or is it reasonable for him to wait another week or so (however long it took for the BidPay money order to arrive) after that to ship the book? And what sort of feedback do you think I should leave?
The book was to have been a Christmas gift, but it still has not arrived.

What did Bidpay say? did they say it was ever cashed? See if they say it has been cashed or not. Is this a power seller?
I know that I usually wait until the check arrives before sending out the item. BUT this holiday season, I have been sending items as soon as I receive the notice that Bidpay's check is in the mail so to speak.

paypal payment notice is different than the bidpay notice.
to the seller, paypal notice means money is already in his paypal account which is immediatey available for him to spend via paypal debit card, transfer to bank account or send to another person/account.
but bidpay notice is just to say a money order will be mailed out shortly, seller does not have the fund until he takes it to the bank and cash it.
you should ask the seller before you use bidpay if he is willing to ship upon bidpay notice/
(in some case,if he is selling for others or he has not purchased the goods yet,he need to have your money in his hands first)

I always mail as soon as I receive verification from Bidpay that the buyer has paid, just like I do with Paypal, I have never had a problem with a check from Bidpay not arriving.

A couple of years ago a buyer said he was going to pay by BidPay. I'd never heard of it but said sure. A few days latter the money order arrived and I sent the item. I've done several thousand ebay auctions and that was on the only BidPay payment I've ever received.
This seller may be new to the BidPay system. The money order could have got lost in the mail.

I feel sorry for those sellers, then, because sooner or later they will get bit in the private parts by a buyer who cancels the BidPay money order...which can be done any time prior to mailing!

Wrong again. Sorry. If it's a transfer from another person's PayPal account, sure, I ship when it's posted in my PayPal account. But if it's an eCheck (a transfer from their checking account) you're darned right Skippy I wait until that payment has cleared. Sometimes they don't.

I'm not. Looks like he's an experienced seller who knows what he's doing.
Leave a neg in this case and you'll get the return neg you will deserve.

I've used Bidpay plenty of times as a seller, and I wait until I get the money order in my hands before any of my product gets shipped. Sorry, but it isn't like PayPal at all. Usually the money order takes about a week to get here, then I ship the very next day. However, if it was made known to me right away by the buyer that the item was a Xmas gift, I'd probably ship out as soon as I'm assured that the money order was sent. What it boils down to is communication. If the buyer is good about communicating with me via email, then I as a seller feel better about this person, and the fear of getting stiffed out of the $$ diminishes.

I agree with the others. I don't ship until I receive the money order. I consider myself paid when the money is available for me to spend.
As far as feedback goes, if he ships promptly after receiving the merchandise and you are satisfied with the merchandise he deserves a positive.

Nope. It is my money, not yours, and I
want to be able to spend it. If it is
in my bank account, and it hasn't bounced,
then I can spend it. Therefore, I have
listed waiting periods, including PayPal
and BidPay. Don't like it, don't bid.
Someone else will.
What you are asking for is shipment on
the promise of payment, not payment itself.
If the BidPay money order is lost or stolen,
or if you somehow faked the BidPay e-mail
(don't laugh, some probably can) then the
seller is SOL. Try and show some patience,
it is a virtue you know. :^)

Unless PayPal decides to take it back,
which they can do. And that is why I
require it to arrive in my bank account
before shipment of item. Again, it is
my money, so I should be able to REALLY
spend it, not pretend spend it. Or think
it is there only to have PayPal take it
back on a whim...

fluffy is right. I always wait for the m.o. to arrive before mailing. I had someone buy a bidpay and then cancel it and a payinfast and then cancel it because I wouldn't ship to some other address. It was for $400.00. I was notified by email but if you miss the message you are out. He never did pay.

Bidpay sends 2 emails, one when the customer orders the money order, the next after the mony order has been shipped. I always send the item after the confirmation email that the money order has been sent. They can not cancel it after it has been mailed. I had one time when a regular bidpay customer's money order did not arrive. I had to wait 30 days and then bidpay issued me a new money order. Bidpay is the best online payment service by far. I would have sent the item right way, and I do not think you were out of line in hoping for such.

The only on line payment service I have ever accepted is Bidpay, I also ship on comformation, I feel that is the reason they used Bidpay so there item would be shipped out ASP.
I also never waited till I received the money order and in all these years Bidpay has been great.
Some buyers use it for the convience others use it for the quick delivery of there item, so by waiting for the money order to arrive, its just like waiting for a check or reg. money order to be sent.

I always ship after the second email. You can even go to your Bidpay account and confirm that it has been sent. The only way Bidpay will ever stop payment on a money order after it has been sent is if it is lost in the mail. They will issue a new one immediately.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
