I have been away from selling on eBay for about a year and a half so I know things have changed but good grief $.75 fee on $15.50?
I never used to charge a handling fee but now I will have to. Who can afford that kind of charge unless your average sell is over $30.00. I know every time you order anything online or from a catalog you pay handling fees but buyers seem to resent them on eBay.
How about you guys out there...do you charge a handling fee? Do you just include it in your stated shipping fee or state shipping plus ??? for handling? Which is the best way if there is one?
Thanks!

Almost everyone factors in electronic payment fees into their shipping total or selling price much like most stores factor in credit card surcharges into the purchase prices. That is part of the price of doing business and the customer is welcome to pay part or all of those costs.

P/P fees haven't gone up, still 2.9% plus 30 cents. No different than running a retail establishment. You have to figure this just like you have to figurer eBay's fees as part of doing business. Unless you have been in the retail business, you don't realize all of the costs involved in selloing. How lucky you are not to have to pay licensing fees etc that a fixed store has to contend with. Been there, done that.

I had a beauty salon for 11 years so I know the cost of doing business. I did a lot of retail and took credit cards so I am familar with those fees.
I just didn't realize how much the fees took out of profit. When I was selling a few years ago I did it as a part time/hobbie to use for vacation. Now that I am not working outside the home at all and this is my only income (besides my husband's earnings) it has taken on a new meaning.
Thanks guys for all your input. I will redo the TOS on my auctions to account for the adding handling.

"P/P fees haven't gone up, still 2.9% plus 30 cents." Wished that was so but really isn't. USA is different than rest of the world. Pay Pal fees seem to be very fluent and likly will get more so in the future. I use a program called "FeeFinder" which keeps on top of all this and is cheap (About $13.00 to buy with updates) Likly there are others out there but if you are serious about keeping track of your costs it is very useful. This is important if you are a business or do consigning.

PP fees have not gone up as yet however someone will get to pay for ebay's expansion and most likely it will be the sellers in the near future.

i know this has been discussed to death...but...be careful how you word the tos...if you actually state "handling fee is x.xx...buyer don't mind as much as if you say shipping/handling is 6.00 and shipping ends up being 1.00

Fees Fees Everywhere, there are FEES. I have had to start charging a small handling fee to help with all the fees. I never did before but have started charging $1.50. I also have to buy bubblewrap so I may go to $2.00.

I have always had actual shipping charges only but am now going to start a handling charge of $1.00 with each sale...just to cover all the fees.

dacreson: What do you mean when you say P/P fees are fluent? Also, I don't know what P/P charges in the rest of the world, but in USA it is 2.9% + 30 cents. I iuse my P/P like an ordinary credit card. I get a 1 % rebate plus 1.45% interest on my money, so it isn't really costing all that much. Thats better than my bank does or visa or master charge.

Paypal fees also differ based on your whether you have a Standard (2.9%) or Merchant (2.2%) account. You can get upgraded to Merchant status for several reasons. And if you repeatedly receive a lot of Paypal payments, you will be assigned a personal Paypal rep to handle your issues.

Hi All
My template states that I charge actual shipping + $2.50 handling fee. I also state-If you don't agree with this, then please don't bid.

I use AWs feature to add the handling of $2.50 automaticly when shipping is figured.

No one has objected.

How many people come back to bid on your auctions again after they get there credit card bill and see what they paid for the "free" service? I bet not many. As soon as I figured out how C2it works I removed them from my payment options.
I would rather pay the paypal fee and have them come back and bid on more items then feel cheated and avoid you. (this doesen't apply to certain credit cards but I wouldn't take a chance with them again)

I just signed up with c2it because of recent
changes at PayPal. I fail to see how it is
the fault of c2it that certain credit cards
charge and others do not. Explain please...

I think he is writing about the old c2it model where buyers could bear the fees instead. c2it no longers does that. Right now it is free for US transactions.

It was after they said there were no fees that it was happening. They don't charge the credit card as a normal charge, they do it as a cash advance so they don't have to pay the credit card fees. A lot of credit cards charge the buyer a big fee for it. C2it can say they don't charge because it is the credit card company getting the money not them. But I doubt it if a buyer is going to really care who ended up getting the money they didn't expect to have to pay.
