Sometimes it's better to forget the picture & go for a good discription, which the seller
also did not do.

But then again it has bids on it!

I've seen much worse than that. Fuzzy masses that are suppose to represent lady's rings and almost totally black photos that is suppose to represent a tray of men's rings. They make you wonder about the seller a lot. They also make the auction a grab bag auction for riverboat gamblers.

Good lord, worse than that. I wouldn't have thought it possible.

And people actually bid on them.

I sell the same stamps, they are hard to photograph because they are clear. I was never all that happy with my pictures, but I am now.

Yes, I've seen worse than that too! There was an old "Scottie dog" glass lamp listed once.....I have seen them before at Antique shops, and based only on the description in the ebay listing , I knew what I SHOULD have been looking at. But the image was awful! Both the item and the background were completely black and you could barely make out a tiny portion of the profile of the dog...if I had'nt seen it before the listing I would have had no idea what I was looking at...bidding started at $9.99/ NR but doncha' know it sold for almost $160.00 and had many bidders???

mcjane, you might try laying the stamps directly on your scanner bed. The picture will come up dark, usually, but if you have a photo editor you can adjust the levels and lighten it up.You might get better definition that way.

Worse yet, I'm part riverboat gambler and bid on and won some of those horrible photos auctions and got tremendous deals because few if any bidders had also bid on the auctions.
I knew that few bidders would bid with the crappy photos but the descriptions were alright. The sellers would have been much better off without the very bad photos.

In over five years on eBay, I have seen worse too!

If you notice, the seller and the bidders are all Australians and low feedbacks. The high bidder registered Nov 2002 and the low bidder registered in 2000.

I have several eBay ids one with under 10 feedbacks, with a registration of 2000 date, if I remember right. So one can't really tell how long one has been buying and selling on eBay. They may be "old hats."

Nevertheless, they are more than likely "new" and were suckered into it.

That wasn't my auction, it was someone in Australia.
I never had a scanner, I use a Sony Mavica dig camera & set it as bright as I can, you need to for these stamps.
This seller is selling clear acrylic rubber stamps, the same ones I sell, just a different design.
Here is a photo of one of my stamp auctions so you can see what I mean.
