Looks like Ebay is moving along with their "free" shipping plans.
Someone on OTWA boards just posted they received an email saying that Ebay was holding a "free" shipping week on items in Australia and the email directed them to where, as a bidder, they could call up all the items to take advantage of it (thereby passing all the items up that still required shipping fees)
IS the USA site next?

I can not see this as a viable promo. The cost factor will just be to high. Great for ebay, but not for the seller!

Agreed. Great for Ebay but bad for the Seller.
But, if you sell in a category with lots of duplicates like games (thank goodness I don't) then your auctions will probably get bypassed with this type promotion which might force you to do the same next time or if it becomes a permanent search option.
Also, for those who don't then the customers who are always complaining about shipping will really feel cheated since "everyone" else offers free shipping why don't you?

I feel vindicated with my ebay promotional post yesterday now.

I wonder if ebay could have a new promotion for free listing fees on all auctions that offer free s/h? It would have to place a special icon or something on each auction to keep some sellers from abusing the free listing status. Many ebay auction items are very lightweight and the s/h costs are well under $1 so ebay may get some takers. A special section or search function for free s/h may draw a lot of traffic to those listings. That sounds like something ebay may try to get more money out of sellers.
There may be as many as 10% or 15% of ebay auction items that can fit in these categories ( sportscards, postcards, etc. )
