My TOS always has the statement "I do not take Personal Checks" Just had a bidder ask me for my address & the shipping charges so she could send me a check. I emailed her bsck with address & a statement that I do NOT take personal checks. Guess what? This bimbo sends me a check folded in a copy of my last email stating I do NO take personal checks. Who let this one out of her cage??

For the same reason some sellers can't spell "undersand"! Understand?

Welcome to the wonderful world of internet sales. No one reads or thinks this means them.

Sort of on the same line...I've had 2 bidders in 1 day complain about shipping fees I charged on the auctions they won. The amount is clearly stated in the listing. One even emailed me before the auction ended saying it shouldn't cost that much to ship the item, then she bid anyway! The total on each with the shipping included is only $3.49 (final bid of $.99 and shipping $2.50). I guess they would have been happier if they had bid on someone else's item for $2.49 and only paid $1.00 shipping. Oh wait, the total is the same, isn't it??? I have told them we can mutually end the contract with no hard feelings or they can send payment, it's their choice.

My TOS says "I do not accept Personal Checks" also, and I just recently had a customer who wanted to know (after winning the auction) if he could send his Business Check. He pointed out that my TOS doesn't exclude a business check.....hello, scroll down to Payment Methods Accepted"...no mention of checks there either, other than a cashiers check.
So people complain if your TOS is too long and involved, some look for the loopholes...

Make your TOS as long as it needs to be.
Always point to it when asked a question
covered by it. Always follow it. Don't
let them push you into doing something
you are not comfortable with.

For every five problem people I average
around 95 good deals. For every few
people who say my TOS is too long, I
get the same number who tell me they
like how specific I am. Most just follow
through with no mention of length of TOS.
Good luck!

Added:
And on the check thing, tell her you will
send her the item when she pays you via
a method you listed, and that you will
return her check (voided) with the item.
Void it ONLY when you have received the
other payment and are wrapping the item!

keep your TOS as simple as possible.
with millions of listing from so many sellers, who want to read so many variations of terms of sales.how would you like every state ,every city ,every block has its own traffic rules??
if once in a blue moon,a bidder sends you a personal check,i will just take it,unless you cannt take it for some reason/

I take any form of payment except groceries. I have had no problems with personal checks, well only one in all my years of selling, Craft Fairs, Flea Markets and Ebay which total 35 years. I have no problems excepting checks as sometimes that is the only form that they have to Pay. They may be housebound. I really don't accept money through the mail because I think that is more dangerous than checks.

I would trust a check much further than I would a paypal Payment. In over 4 years selling on Ebay, I have never lost a dime on a personal check.

I've been in Buss. for myself all my life.
I've always accepted: Cash & Checks.
To date I have never been given a bad Check, But over the years I have been given Bad Cash!
For online payments I accept:Check,M.O. or Paypal.
In almost 3 years now of dealing online, none of the above have been a problem not once!
I have been paid cash, but mostly from international buyers & they sent U.S.Cash!
Wouldn't recommend it they just took it upon themselves to send it without asking.
But since it made it here OK I gladly took it.
You need to have faith in people,99.99% do the right thing.
