I just received Star Wars 1 and 2 today. They are both new, still with WalMart prices. They were listed as "full screen". I assumed that meant "wide screen". They are both regular, edited for TV videos.

I emailed the seller and she said "They are as described in the listing. No refunds."

Is she right, or am I? I'll try to get them refunded at WalMart first. If that flies, I'll get more back than the price + shipping! If not, I guess I'll be listing 2 videos. (I'll be sure and NOT say "full screen"!!)

Wide screen is when there is black on the top and bottom of the picture making it "wide" not full screen.

FULL SCREEN = where they chop about 30% of the picture out, trying to format it to fit a TV screen!

WIDE SCREEN = you get the whole movie! But in order to do that with a TV screen, the pic is "letter-boxed" -- the black bands at the top & bottom!

I NEVER buy any "Full-Screen" versions!

Seller is right, your assumption was incorrect. "Full Screen" means the image is redited to fill the full screen inage of a TV. Widescreen is the letterbox version.

Thank you, all! (I think!)

I guess I got what was described. New learning for me on definitions. I'll try to get to WalMart soon and see if they will take them back.

Isn't that dishonest?

Since WalMart is a Giant Megalithic Corporation I guess it's okay to cheat it, eh?

HOW IS THAT DISHONEST? UNLIKE SOME EBAY SELLERS, WALMART, TARGET, K-MART LETS YOU RETURN ITEMS YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH.

ALSO IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY WILL TRY TO GET THE WIDESCREEN VERSIONS IF THEY HAVE THEM.

Oh, I am so sorry. I forgot about situational ethics. <slaps forehead> What was I thinking, actually imagining that there might be such things as "right" and "wrong", when some people are clearly all about greed.

Next time you feel the urge to post one of your tedious polemics on evil eBay sellers, take a good long look in the mirror.

YOU STILL HAVEN'T ANSWERED THE QUESTION, HOW IS IT WRONG? THEIR RETURN POLICIES ALLOW IT... THAT IS WHAT MAKES THEM BETTER THAN YOU.

IF I NEED TO CONJURE UP AN EVIL EBAY SELLER, I JUST COME AND READ YOUR INANE POSTS.

"POLEMICS" SOMEONE LEARNED TO READ A DICTIONARY.... WOOT... DID SOMEONE TELL YOU THE WORD OR DID YOU HEAR IT ON TV?

There is nothing dishonest about the return to WalAmrt, it is no different than returning a gift that someone else bought.

And I agree there is a significant difference between professional sellers and small change sellers in their return policies. Being unsatisfied with an item for any reason is good enough for a refund for the pros.

If you did not buy it at walmart, then why do you think they should take it back? No sales slip? If I worked there I would refuse the So called return!
No matter how you look at it, its dishonest! End of story.

A retailer's return policy, liberal or not, does not make any kind of behavior "all right".

I am sorry for people who have so little sense of what is fair and what is not that they base what skimpy ethics they have on store policies.

I was in line at Megalithic Hardware Store a few years back when a young Gumby* man (accompanied by his mother) presented 13 still-in-packaging-but-obviously-kicked-around home thermostats for a refund. No receipt. They weren't all the same manufacturer; in fact, a few weren't carried by the store at all. None of them had store price tags.

I got a good view of this spectacle because it took 20 minutes, and because the customer service manager forced the reluctant clerk to figure out what the retail price would have been on the items they didn't stock, and to issue full refunds for each thermostat.

When asked for ID, a standard request for a return, the young adult said he had none and used his Mom's driver's license instead.

Nice.

After the pair left, the clerk turned to the manager and in full view of the remaining customers asked why she had to issue them cash refunds on goods that were quite likely stolen from a new-home development.

"Because we could be sued for discrimination if we didn't."

Oh yeah, it's really OKAY to steal stuff and turn it in for a refund if the store will accept it. Sure. I believe that.

And it's really OKAY to return some item to a store you didn't buy it from.

*Gumby = any kind of race you want, just fill in the blank.

I suggest the buyer resell them on ebay.

In my store I get some trying to return inferior jewelry, t-shirts, or other crap that they purchased from street vendors or at discount stores. I know my merchandise. They have no receipts of course but it's amazing how nasty some can get when I say no.

Any store that takes returns on things they didn't sell is just opening themselves up for more abuse from low-life customers who in turn tell their friends how they can also do that there.

Yo! WeePole! (snicker)

cdarnold: If you had kept quiet about the return, you would have saved a lot of grief. What you do is your business. Just keep it to yourself & you won't have all of the do gooders harping at you. Actually, you know, all those who say that Wal-Mart is the ones who lose is wrong. I have heard horror stories from people who try and deal with Wal-Mart/Sams Club that their liberal return policy just gets passed on to their suppliers. Wal-Mart gets crap returned 2 years after purchase and returns it to their suppliers for credit/replacement. Since Wal-Mart is huge, the suppliers have to eat the garbage and replace it or lose the Wal-Mart/Sam's contract. Eventually, the suppliers have to raise their prices to compensate for the loss of income on the garbage, which ends up raising the cost to Wal-Mart, which ends up raising the cost to us, the retail buyers.

So, like insurance fraud, this costs us, the end users. You folks that return your junk to Wal-Mart to get something new in return - It ends up costing everyone. But I guess that's ok, because at least you got something for nothing, right? Ethics or not.....

You do surprise me with that statement! We all have our flaws, but I do not need to screw someone else over If I make a mistake.

Where are you guys getting that these tapes are not from WalMart ? The poster states clearly that the tapes are from WalMart. Taking the tapes back to Walmart is no different than returning a gift that you didn't personally buy from WalMart.

Reamond has a point. These movies DID originally come from Wal-Mart.

Although I agree in general with what the other posters above are saying, the simple fact that these WERE purchased at Wal-Mart makes it OK in my mind to return them. It really is not different than returning a Christmas Gift you don't want.

Now if the DVDs came from Circuit City or somewhere, THEN all those other arguments above are completely justified.

Yes, reamond makes a good point. And so did twelvepole early on. Which proves that I am getting as bad as my bidders, I can't read either.

An update...
I took the videos back to WalMart. (Remember they had WM price tags on them. Well, one did. The other had a WM sticker, but not a price.)

The one was $15+. Anyway they scanned and refunded $29!! I only paid around $19 for the auction & shipping!

I am so tempted to email the seller and rub it in her face...she was so snotty...but I'll take the higher road.

And I now know the difference between "wide" screen and "full" screen!

NAW, THAT WOULD BE IN POOR TASTE TO DO THAT TO THE SELLER, THEY SOLD YOU WHAT WAS LISTED IT SOUNDS LIKE, YOU JUST DIDN'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, BUT YOU CAN MAKE A NOTE TO ADD THEM TO YOUR "NO BUY" LIST...

BUT CONGRATS ON THE REFUND, AND HOPE YOU DO CAN FIND THE VIDEOS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.
