I tried Symantec like everybody advised, but Symantec's Klez virus removal tool couldn't get rid of it. (My computer had Klez.h). I found a site called f-secure.com by accident and I tried their Klez removal tool, and it worked! It took less than 5 minutes and it was all automatic. My computer is now back to normal. I was very close to tossing it in the trash.

Woooohooooo!!!

Out of curiosity, Did you have an up to date antivirus in your computer? I have been hit 2X by Klez H & both times Norton A/V stopped it & put into quarantine. I have Norton 2002 with automatic updates.

Same here, except I was only hit once (last week). Norton popped up and told me Kelz had been detected and did I want to quarantine it? I did and that was that.

Norton 2002 is great! I had never had a virus before, and sure was glad I decided to put the virus software on when I bought the new computer last year.

Lindajean, my first contact with a virus was back in 1989 when I was taking a class in DOS at WAKE Tech in Raleigh, NC. I took home a practice disk & loaded into my computer, it showed up as a virus, because I had Virucide by Partsons Technology, (no longer in bisiness, bought out by intuit because they had a better Tax Program than Turbo TAx.)

I have a couple of viruses that Norton detected and quarantined too...but is that enough? Do they have to be removed from the computer too or is ok to leave them in quarantine?

I wondered the same thing. What happens to them when Norton quarantines them? Are they disabled?

To sanmar, I didn't have any anti-virus software. I thought that because I hardly ever download any software and because I never open email attachments that I would be immune. For over 3 years, I haven't had any problems until now.

I'm definitely going to invest in anti-virus software now. f-secure will probably be getting my business.

Just wondering, can an unprotected computer pick up the Klez virus through web-based email like Hotmail?

Re: web based email like hotmail. You bet it can & does. That is how I got hammered. I am on MSN & that is hotmail. My suggestion is get the Norton Security pkg. It will cut down on your spam & you get free updates to Norton A/V for a year. I just got another update this morning. It is automatic whenever you are on the internet. It isn't enough to just have an A/V, it has to up dated routinely.
Yes, You can eliminate the quarantined virus. Go into Norton A/V & it will show you how.
