I need help with this horse I bought recently. It measures 12" high and 14" wide. It's heavy like cast iron. I'm not sure if it was a doorstop or a statue or what. What are thos decorative things hanging from the saddle called? Has anyone seen one like this before?

Chinese.... the saddle adornment represents the cloth used as part of the ornamentation on saddles from china.
If this is Bronze it could be the real thing or one of the many reproductions coming out of China these days.
I collect Bronze horse statues and have some originals and several very nice reproductions direct from china.
Also the posture of the horse is characteristic of Chinese figurines and bronzes.

I have owned a number of these through the years and am now down to just one. They are made of iron and came from Japan during the 1960's when there was an embargo on all items coming from China into the US and the Japanese saw the opportunity to fill a vacuum. They are replicas of Terra Cotta Chinese horses from the Tang Dynasty. Put a magnet to it and it will stick.

Forgot to mention - These came in different sizes and were priced accordingly and in different stances - I guess a number of different molds were cast. They were common in U.S. Asian Import Stores when all you could buy was stuff from Hong Kong and Japan. Now the Chinese are copying Japanese stuff for sale
