For the last hour, PayPal is out in Central Missouri.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Thanks

Yes, Southern CA too. They just posted an announcement that they're "down for maintenance," up again at 2 p.m. PST. Earlier they were swamped, apparently, but who knows?!

I have a Stupid Question about PayPal: I've been accepting payments through them, to deposit in a checking account. Today I was high bidder on an item and decided to use PayPal but what came up for me was that they'd take it from my checking account. It IS possible, right, for me to PAY through them, using a credit card? Do I just go in and maneuver through their forms to make this happen?

roadsmith, I might be incorrect in what I am telling you, but this is how I think it works.

If you have a balance in your Paypal account, and you choose to send money out, Paypal only gives you the option of taking the money from your Paypal account up to the ceiling of what you have. For example, if you have a $100 Paypal balance, and you want to send out $90, then Paypal takes $90 from the balance and doesn't give you any other payment options. However, if you have a $100 Paypal balance, and you want to send out $150, then Paypal will take out $100, and give you payment options for the other $50.

What I do, since I get money in, and I do a lot of buying, is I transfer my balance to my bank account before I send out any money. I pretty much do this anyway because I want to have a solid paper trail of matching customer payments to my bank deposits to my packing slips to my shipping receipts. In other words, my Paypal balance is from customer payments, and I am not going to pay for personal expenditures from that Paypal balance because it is not appropriate record keeping for my business.

Thanks, hotcup. I too transfer all money from buyers using PayPal to my bank account immediately. The other part of my question was whether I can use a credit card to PAY for things I buy on ebay.

They have my MasterCard number as backup for deposits; I'd forgotten I'd given them that, it's been so long. Do you think I could use the MasterCard through PayPal to pay for things?

Hi Roadsmith, yes, your Mastercard should be there available for purchases. When you Send Money, select More Funding Options in the Source of Funds categroy, which is a blue line, and up will pop your Mastercard as a payment option.
