Happy monday evening everyone. Just checking my emails after sending out my EOAs last night for my Sunday closes. I received one today:
from: buyer @verizon.net
> c
>
>
> can you sent toal andadressto email
> [email protected]
> i won your item jack
>

I took out the address at aol and verizon as well as changed the name at the end of the email.

Now the email address registered with ebay is a totally different email address than either the orginator of this email or the one they want me to send the info to. I don't think I should be sending auction info to someone else that isnt even listed on ebay as the winner of my auction. what do you think? Oh by the way, the winner has been registered since January 2003 and has 3 postive FB, no negs, no neutrals.

HELP (thanks so much)
(I can't spell tonight & computer is still acting up.)

I am just about ready to send this reply to the email sender.

Yesterday I sent an email to the winner of that auction. It was sent to the email address that is registered with ebay. If this is indeed the auction that you won, I would strongly suggest that you correct/change your email info on ebay. It is NOT a safe practice for the buyer or seller to communicate with any other email address other than what is registered with ebay. Let me know when that is done and I will resend the WIN email to you.

Probably just at a work computer or on a different e-mail account. Happens all the time and never have any problems.

I have had this happen when someone registered on ebay bids for someone else and then wants the actual purchaser to take over from there. I had no problem with this but the person explained it in his initial email. I did the same when I sold an ambulance for our volunteer fire department. I wanted the chief to make the arrangements about payment and delivery so I didn't have to be a go-between. It worked just fine.

In the past week I have had 2 like this. One one of them emailed me & said they were having trouble witrh e
Bay getting their email address changed. The other had blocked all email from MSN because of Too Much Spam. Had to get her phone # & call her to get her to open up so I could email her.

I had this same thing happen to me two weeks ago. Sent an EOA to the winner of a piece of office equipment. She emailed back and said she was buying it for the business where she works and to direct all emails to her email account at the office. Just love it when the boss gives an employee the checkbook and tells them to go buy something I have up for sale

UPDATE: well, I sent the email I listed here. I sent it to the person sending me the email as well as to the AOL address. Interestingly, the AOL address came back with an error: >... User unknown

HUMM now what? I think I will send an email to the person who is listed as the winner through ebay and update them on the situation. any other thoughts on this one folks, sure would appreciate some help!!!

-----------

I just sent this email to the email address listed on ebay:

I don't know what is going on here but yesterday I sent you an email notifying you of your winning my auction. Today I received an email from another email address stating that they are you and want win info sent to another address instead. Please see below for the other email and for my reply. The AOL address is invalid as AOL notified me of such. Please reply to this email within 48 hours with confirmation that you have received this email as well as the auction info I need to complete this transaction with you or I will have to cancel your winning bid.

thank you for you time.

My partner and I deal with this all the time. Many times we have wives using husband's or friend's accounts, or just people using multiple accounts. We keep a table to track the ids, eBay versus emails and best contact. So far (fingers crossed) it hasn't been a problem other than trying to remember who is who. Just my two cents.

Btw, I'm brand new here, on the recommendation of another seller and hope to fully enjoy not having to deal with multiple hosting sites, etc.

I buy and sell on Ebay. I have 6 email accounts and just added a seventh. I use only one right now for Ebay, but occasionally accidentally email a seller or buyer from the wrong mail account, whether through Ebay's "ask Seller a Question" or off Ebay.

I have mutilple email accounts so I can keep my 200 emails per day categorized into various business and personal accounts. My one mail account I use for Ebay has about 20 subfolders alone.

I have honest bidders all the time with multiple email accounts. They win under one and contact me from another. At first I was concerned but found that it was always the same person.

I occasionally have bidders with new email accounts who forgot to change their email with Ebay. Generally, they are people who are not very active on Ebay, or relatively new.

You cannot email someone with a bad email address on Ebay through "Ask Seller a Question". Ebay just sends the email to the bad address, because they don't have the new one either. It's a waste of time.

You are lucky that the buyer with the bad Ebay email address at least contacted you after the sale. If they don't and and have a bad email with Ebay, about the only way to reach them is to get their contact info from Ebay and call them. And long distance charges eat up your profits.

Around Christmas time, I had a number of these. Before I understood exactly what was going on, I negged a buyer for non-payment. She had about 8 recent negs for same. She finally contacted me somehow and between us we figured out she made a practice of never emailing the seller after the sale from her new address, and just waited to be contacted by the seller. The sellers were emailing her, but she didn't know. And none of them ever got a reply from the bad address, so negged her.

I saw the virtual light bulb finally go on above her head. She just said, "I wondered why all those sellers never contacted me about what I'd won". DUH!!!!!

Some people out there are not operating with a "full deck". Any of the rest of us would have emailed the seller after the auction. She certainly should have inquired as to the first neg and figured out what was going on.

I spent time helping her sort it out not just to save the sale, but because I saw that she had a moderate but consistent amount of positive feedback before a certain day, then most everything went negative in her feedback after that for non-payment, non contact.

I advised her to email all those sellers and try to make handle each one in turn. She said she would, and that she had really wanted to buy that stuff.

So the bottom line is, if a buyer emails with a different address than is registered with Eaby, don't be alarmed, although it is at best slightly confusing. If you want to verify the ID of the person emailing, simply reply that you'd really like to conclude the sale, but they have a different email registered with Ebay and you need to verify their ID.

Have them tell you what email address they have registered with Ebay. They should be able to tell you. And then they should realize they need to update their Ebay account with the new one if they have any smarts at all.

I have a number of sellers that bid with their personal email on their Ebay account, and contact me after the auction from their work email account. I don't get overly concerned about the difference in the emails. If I was selling expensive one-of-a-kind items, I might be more concerned about verifying.

I'm just happy someone wants to pay me!

Patty

another thing you could do (and I apologize if this is mentioned already - I'm just taking a quick lunch break) is check on the winning bidder page to see if the zip code matches the address she gave you to send it to.

Most people have multiple email accounts. If the Ebay registered email is invalid then be just a bit careful. Have them pay in secure funds only if your closing bid is heafty. Just do it in a business like manner as it may just be this person is moving their email or changing ISP.

If I had AOL I would drop them like a bomb at the first opportunity too.

Multiple email contacts from the same person is my biggest complaint. It always adds to the confusion and drives me nuts, but it's part of doing buiness on the net.

Probably just at a work computer or on a different e-mail account. Happens all the time and never have any problems.

No problems yet, you mean.

I have had underbidders attempt to "steal" the item by claiming to be the high bidder using a different email address. One even succeeded. The real winning bidder was, shall we say, mightily P.O.'d.

We ONLY send invoices to the eBay-registered address now and ONLY communicate with same. Persons who want us to send email to a different address are advised that if their eBay address is invalid, it has been reported and they can expect to be suspended shortly.

C'mon, folks. Don't encourage this kind of shady behavior. It is NOT part of doing business on the net. No other online business is expected to track multiple addresses per person and you don't have to do it, either.

Another Update: well, you can see by my post as of this morning, the last email I sent was this morning. short and sweet. what's your name and address so I can ship this @#$@#$ item to you if and when I receive your payment. Well, Not only did I receive an almost intelligible name and address. I think I can decifer it. But I received TWO! Oh brother, how can someone manage to acquire 6 postives with 0 negatives with that kind of communication. oH well, I guess another semi newbie.

Thanks everyone for your support. Last week I had 4 sells out of 40+ listed. Out of these 4, 1 sale, than this character and 2 non responses to emails . Ho hummm another day at the mill.
