Skylite, Ebay is working fine here on a Dial up connection. Try updating your Windows by clicking on "Tools" on the tool bar on your browser. (Find on top of the screen) click on "Windows Update", click on "product update" click on "Critical Update" Microsoft will search your computer for missing updates and if there is a check next to the critical update, you may not have the newest security. The update will speed your access to websites and you won't receive so many error messages when surfing.

The last update was this month (February) and if you have not updated in the past, the download may take awhile. The time is listed on the Microsoft page for the download.

This has been the biggest problem for the slow downs that most people are experiencing as some people are not aware that Windows needs to be updated. Ebay is always the first place people notice it.

Hope that helps, if it does let us know back here on the board.

VOILA, Greengate! Your suggestion works!

It took me about a half hour to FIND in Windows where I could do this, sort of went around the world on it, but when I did, it took about 1.5 hours to load the critical update; we finally left the computer on overnight, and this morning my husband saw that it was done but there was another window saying we needed to do more, which took another hour or so.

Still, Ebay is now loading quickly, as in old times, so thanks VERY MUCH for the suggestion.

Oddly though, ebay is (yet) again slower than any other site I log onto. I spent a lot of time in the feedback forum just now trying to get some info on two user names. I wonder if it's possible that ebay is experiencing some glitchy thing?

Ebay is always a bit slower. I have a fairly powerful Win NT Workstation with lots of RAM (Random Access Memory) but I have found that if I spend an hour online I need to log off the internet and log on again to get the speed back. That process dumps the RAM.

Ebay is so graphic rich that the RAM gets full very quickly. Unless you have a grease lightning Computer you might try what I do to get things moving along.

The other thing that has worked for me is a Dial up excellerator that speeds up the connection and kills pop-ups that fill up the RAM. I use proxyconn.com that is less then $10. per month. Used it for about 8 months and store the downloaded software on a Floppy disk. I can see the difference if I don't insert the floppy when I'm online. They had a free 30 day trial when I started so it lets you check out the service first.

Those pop-ups, by the way, fill up the RAM.
