Has anyone used the 'second chance offer' feature on Ebay? If you use it, do you sell the item for the high bid price or are you able to set another price?

You can offer it to the bidder at their highest bid as registered during the auction.

I always use it anytime I get multiple bids on an item that I have more than one of. It's kind of like a "dutch auction after the fact".

I get about 20-25% takers on the second chance offer.

No, you cannot set the price yourself. You have to offer it at the amount they bid, which is by default LESS than the original winning bid.

I have used it probably 20 times, and only had 2 accept, I have no idea why. I think that sometimes other sellers contact the bidder with a lower price, I know for a fact this happened once. It always seems strange that when there is a real bidding war, and I offer the "second chance" right away, I usually get no bid.

Depending on how long after the auction ends, and how long between the second bid and the end of auction I can get a sell through of 50% or more. If the second place bidder tried to snipe, but was beat by an earlier bidder, and I send the second chance within 10 minutes, I am near 100%.

I get 50% or so sell-threough on Second Chance. I have always found that the sooner you send it after auction end, the greater the sell-through.

Second-Chance is a great feature and can make for an easy follow up sale. We send offers on all auctions that end with multiple bids. Thus far, our sell through with the feature has been over 30%. It's found money in my book.

This is my problem: A book of mine went for over $200. I started it at $9.99. The auction only had 2 bidders and now I think the high bidder isn't going to pay. So, much as I would like to have $200. for the book, it doesn't seem fair to offer it at that price since the only other bidder didn't come thru. I don't know any other way to get in touch with #2 though except by going thru the 2nd chance offer.

I've had a great track record for selling with second chance, well over 50% - Sometimes the communication has turned into larger sales. I had a $10 sale turn into a $125 sale just by communicating with the buyer (and no, ebay did not get a cut of the extra sale beyond buy it now)
