I just wanted to take a poll to see who pays an extra 30 cents to add a Gallery Photo to their auction, and for those who do, have you been able to track whether you get more sales or not?

Depends entirely on the item -
Jewelry - yes
DVDs - no.
Basically..... is the appearance of the item crucial, are there a large number of items in the catagory or search, is it something truly unique that you may not be able to adequately describe with your title?

In my category glass, it's important. I would imagine that other categories like clothing and collectibles it's widely used.

I use gallery pics on all my shoes that I sell. Mainly because there are so many of us out there that sell shoes, I want to capture the attention of bidders with our pics.

I would also add to the equation whether or not the item would be something that someone looked for, or if it was something that would be bid on with an impulse buy. If it is impulsive, then a gallery photo might help. I don't use them personally though, my ebay fees are high enough. I think the items I tend to sell are things that people are actually looking for, not necessarily browsing and something catches their eye...

I pay eBay .25 for a gallery pic (.01 this week!). I've tried it both ways, and since my imtems are more impulse buying..the pic helps.
I myself, seldom look at an auction without a gallery pic.

I use them on items which have good closeup pictures that are actually identifiable from that little photo, and I spend a bit of time deciding which one will be good when I squint and pretend I'm in the Gallery.

I use gallery about 90 per cent of the time. Particularly for Fine china. I have been told that there are people who don't look anywhere else until they searched the gallery. Thats good enough for me, I will be glad to spend a quarter to make a sale.

As a seller, I agree it depends on the item. Things in the realm of esthetics, art, collectibles, fabric, decorator pillows - yes. Office supplies, duct tape, car parts - no. Get the idea?
As a buyer I shop for fabric on Ebay. There are many thousands of listings daily, and great prices. I really appreciate the sellers who put in a gallery image. I don't go to the official "gallery" but can quickly see a thumbnail next to the listing when browsing the various fabric categories. I don't like certain colors, but I am crazy for others, hate big flowers, etc. The thumbnail next to the item title (which one gets when paying for a gallery listing)lets me scroll down the list quickly to spot an auction item I want to open and look at more closely.
But who cares what a roll of duct tape looks like? I recently bought a steam cleaner from Target's website after seeing used ones on Ebay. I knew what it looked like, so a gellery image didn't matter.

Ordinarily, I'd say yes! but during this free gallery week i'd have to say NO! or maybe its the fact that it's free gallery week that is hurting my auctions ... bids are way down...either buyers are overwhelmed by all the gallery items or the sellers who dont know how to write up a listing are benefitting by people actually looking at their auctions for once! I dunno but i think i cant wait for this week to be over (actually 2 weeks+3 days!)I wonder if buyers even know how to turn off the gallery views! sighhhhhhhhhhhhh......

I never use Gallery now after a brief flirtation with it in 2001. I don't even use it when it's free.
But you folks just go ahead and spend an extra 25 cents per auction. eBay loves ya, baby!
