Yet another price increase...

ebay never seemed to like reserves. This is their way of collecting substantially higher fees whether or not a reserved item sells.

High ticket items often require multiple
listings before they sell.
This will pretty much kill the high
end art & antiques market on ebay.
Reserves are common in RL auctions.
And the customrs who buy this stuff
are used to that. Looks like this
company will do anything to remain
the darling of Wall Street.

C'mon... People sell carrots for a million dollars and you don't EXPECT eBay to do something to discourage it?

Think of the fees silly stuff like that will run!

I'm really sick of insane reserves anyway. I rarely ever bid on an item with a reserve.

Reserve fees are refundable if the item sells, so the problem is moot.

Yeah, they have hit the low end seller as hard as they can without killing them. Now the greedy SOB's are after the high end sellers. They can't just be happy with the commissions they get. Most of the things I put a reserve on aren't going to be affected, so I am not too worried right now.

IMHO - it may be a case of "just the cost of doing business" or is it "passing the buck"?.

In a recent Antique Trader magazine there was an article about eBay.

Article mentioned 2 businesses which eBay had purchased (bought out) a few years back at purchase prices of 1XX million dollars each.

They sold these same businesses for 1X - 2X million dollars each within the past year.

Hmmm....paid 1XX million - sold for 1X or 2X million = time to recoup our business mistakes from the sellers.
