Last night I sold a two-piece milk-glass candy dish to a buyer with 0 feedback and sunglasses. I sent the usual EOA message. Here's what I got today:

Adele,

Is there a less expensive way to send this - like "book rate" or "media" or
whatever that is called?

(The shipment is 3#, from So. CA to Georgia, and shipping is more than the cost of the item.) I've replied in a pretty stern way. But I have a bad feeling about this and probably won't cut her much slack.

File for npb?? The deal is not yet over.

Just tell them if you just stick a stamp on the item[ no box, no wrap] only then will it get cheaper shipping.
Best to tell them this is a good as it gets, no media etc. Then take it from there.

Explain that Media mail is handled rougher than priority or even parcel besides that tell her it is against the USPS rules for you to do that and you will not lower yourself also she is trying to change the guidelines(TOS) of the auction and that is a no no also and that she placed a bid on the item knowing full well what the shipping was

Hi Adele
I know exactly what your feeling, Just tell her the way it is.
Give her the weight, Give her a link to the Postal Web site, and be firm like you said you were.
She may not realize that media mail can not be used for items such as this.

When this happens to me I tell them how it has to be, and if they don't want to do it this way, then I give then the option of not purchaseing this item, and that I will file for my selling fees back from Ebay.........But there is nothing you can do about the cost of shipping.

Also, this was a question that she should have spoke to you before she placed her bid, not now that the auction is over.

I hope things go well for you, You are one of the Best Sellers I have had time to get to know. Be Well, Mar

Oh, Yes, we'd be HAPPY to ship "BOOK RATE" -- just give me a day or so to print the auction photo & I'll ship that right out to ya!

You guys are great! Thanks for your encouragement. Well, here's the upshot of it. She sent a message (which I'm copying, below) and has already paid through PayPal. I guess I was firm and stern enough! Here's her answer:

Thank you for your quick response! : ) I'm new to e-bay and never ship anything anywhere so, that is
good information you shared. I just had someone mention that method and wondered. Yes, you're
right. The distance does add to the postage and I would prefer that it be well packed as an intact piece
is more desirable than an insurance claim (*lol*). I'll use Paypal right now and take care of this. Thank
you. : )

HOWEVER! She was to pay $15.40 without insurance, $16.70 with insurance.

PayPal says - with insurance, here's the payment she's sent: $15.80.

Sigh. NEWBIES!

Imagine that, you mail media mail, USPS inspects the package & your in trouble, not her.

Glad it worked out though.
