The local show promoter just decided after 15 years that now is the time for fire retardant table covers. I agree we should all have had them years ago. I don't want to have to replace them, but I did a search on ebay under show materials for fire retardant and only got tents. Any ideas?

I've been told that Powdered Borax is a fire retardant so if your covers are cloth you should be able to
soak them in a very strong borax solution. I'd guess you'd want to air dry them on a line or something
as putting them in a dryer would remove at least some of the Borax. And you really don't want Borax
on the next load of clothes would you? Probably itch!

The fire retardent is usually required in some shows by the local fire departments. I used to participate in an annual show at the Astrohall in Houston, with a wooden booth. Not only did all the wood have to be sprayed with fire retardant, I had to have a certificate from a licensed company that had done the spraying. I had to display the paperwork it on the back of the booth. The fire inspectors did inspect the booth and checked the certificate. What a pain. And the people who sprayed didn't use borax. Some thick yellow crud! (technical term, LOL!)

Fire resistant table covers and bunting are available at the larger party discount stores, as I remember. Like Party Pig, Party City.

Here is a little mix that has been known to work as a fire retardant. Take 2 parts H2O powder mix thoroughly with 10 liters of water. Soak your tablecloth thoroughly. If it dries off just rewet it. TeeHee!

DUH!

I should have known! I did a quick search and Dharma Trading Company has Fire retardent that can be sprayed on. Here's a link to that page on their site.

I order fabric dying stuff from them.

sanmar,

That's why zircon4's post was so funny! I used to have a friend that had a can of "instant water" on a shelf in his office.

Just a little 2.30am humour. Recycled joke from my school days.
Irish survival kit, 1 large tin of dehydrated water. Directions for use; add water and stir. You remembered chem 101 perfectly!
