I have found that more and more ocassional sellers can not list on ebay because of the high fees. There is a trend now to wait on free listing day to sell most of the items that has been stored up. I have talked to some that are preparing their Mr. Lister for that day which they expect in the summer or late december. some has several hundred item prepared to go once that day comes. The savings could be tremendous in listing fees. But what is even more strange is that the buyers also look for that day to come so they can get some quality stuff. Ebay is only profitable when listing fees are supended. And with falling profits, ebay may go to more free listing days than twice a year.

Hmmm. At last glance, eBay now has 9.6 million listings. At the last free listing day, it jumped to almost 12 million. And if your experience has been anything like mine, the more listings, the poorer the performance of individual items.
Over the past seven years (really!), my eBay fees as a percentage of total sales have stayed just about the same month by month, year by year. Did I just get smarter at it? One would hope. Regardless, eBay is a wonderfully inexpensive way to sell at least in my categories (antiques and collectables mostly). Generally, I can't even back out of my driveway to do a show for what I pay eBay.

I can't afford to wait for FLD's. I list every week all year long. I have to move my inventory or get out of the game. I don't list lots of items as some do, but what I list are on the high end & I can't afford to sit on them.

This thread has me wondering about the agenda of the original poster.
Tip, dbest: Try to make it less obvious you don't know what you're talking about. Mister Lister no longer exists. eBay is profitable for many of us, fees and all, day in and day out. And many of us wouldn't lose ten seconds' sleep if there was never another free listing day.

I love FLD's, but generally it is only once or twice a year- there's no way you can save all your stuff to sell then.
Also, eBay and Auction Mgt services all have trouble on FLD. How would you like to wait 6 months and then not be able to post your items do to a glitch?
I might hold off posting for a few days in December when I expect a FLD, but otherwise, no, I don't hold back my listings for it.
This is a business, not a hobby. There are certain expenses involved that you just have to absorb. Or get out of the business.

About the only days during the year that I DO NOT list are the free listing days. I avoid them at all cost. Nothing but overrrloads of trouble and garbage that people can't sell outright. This post really does not hold water. Fees are low compared to B&M and profits are good

By the time free listing day rolls around I don't hardly have anything left over that didn't sell.By then it either sold the second time around or sold at the Flea market.Right now sales seem to be very good.
