New policy change from ebay.
Chronic use
Not sure if this is an improvement at all as its very vague, leaves it wide open!
How does a seller know what is too often? I smell a fee increase here. ummmmmmm

Ending Items Early

Currently, sellers may end a listing as long as they cancel any bids and provide a reason for why the listing was ended. Providing sellers with the flexibility to manage their items is an important component of trading on eBay. Chronic use of the ability to cancel listings, especially when the listing has bids, has a negative impact on buyers as well as on the broader marketplace, and is not allowed.

We are updating our Fee Circumvention and Reserve Price Violations policies to clarify that chronic use of ending listings early when there are bids - and there is less than 12 hours left in the listing -is not permitted.

There are legitimate reasons to end a listing, even with bids, and the
policies do not prevent sellers from ending an item early. This change only clarifies our position on abuse of the capability.

Please see the following updated pages:

*Reserve Price Violations:

*Listing Techniques that Circumvent eBay's Fee Structure:

eBay

If they did not keep raising the reserve price fees this would not be a big problem for ebay. I think that this will drive a lot of the better items off ebay in the long run as the reserve fee will keep going up.

Lower cost items will hurt due to the slim margin in the first place. Would not surprise me to see sellers shutting down auctions just before the 12 hour limit.

Well trai if that happens then eBay will elect to extend it from 12 to 24 hours and then they would probably impliment a fee that goes along with it if it is abused.

Can someone tell me what is a legitiment reason to end an auction early other than it got broken?

I have not been involved or have I ended and auction early. If I was a high bidder and a seller did that to me I would be rather upset. If the seller doesn't think they are getting enough for their item then they either need a reserve or start higher.

I agree with that policy and I hope that it is enforced.

I've been ending a couple of auctions early each day because the item information was wrong (pulled from an old auction and now incorrect).

Since eBay does not allow editing of an auction with a bid on it, and people rarely read the "add to your item" addendum, I had no other choice.

Looks like this remedy will now not be available to me. Guess I'll just have to not complete those transactions in the future and file for a refund of my fees.
