I tried to do the Square Trade thing. They took my $20.00 from my Paypal account and then decided not to remove the neg. They said I'd get my money back within 60 days...

Now I get this from Square Trade. Same case and money was taken. Am I reading this wrong, or are they charging my card again?

Thank you for writing to SquareTrade about your concerns. We have
reviewed the case record in the mediation recognized that the other
party in this case did not participate in the process.

"Although mediation often leads to satisfactory resolution of problems,
SquareTrade is committed to delivering the highest quality mediation
services possible which requires both parties to participate.

As a result, we have determined to charge your credit card
account.

The $20 credit should appear on either this month or next month's
statement depending upon the timing of your statements."

They say they will charge and credit? What?

The $20.00 credit means you are getting your money back. Reason: the the other party refused to participate in the process.

I think so too, but the line "As a result, we have determined to charge your credit card account." sounds strange.

I thought it should say credit my account, but it looks like it is saying charge my account...

I guess I'll just wait and see.

You will most likely get the credit but...

They obviously say two different things so I would e-mail them and ask just to be sure and I would keep a record of their response.

The email from SquareTrade says "the other
party in this case did not participate in the process," not that they refused to participate.

The distinction being that if the other party doesn't respond within a certain timeframe (30 days?), the mediator can choose to settle the case in your favor.

I'd write to ST again and ask them why they didn't remove the neg, since their own rules allow them to.

Wouldn't they keep the $20 if they removed the neg?

They did not remove the neg. They just took the money and either will or will not charge my card again. They will either refund the money or not. The neg stays. That much is clear...
